Arch Manning received a visit from one of his famous family members.

Arch is a freshman at Texas after enrolling on campus early so he could take part in spring practices. On Monday, he shared some photos to his Instagram account. One of the photos showed Arch with his grandfather Archie Manning at Texas’ practice bubble in Austin.

Archie Manning was a long time New Orleans Saints quarterback who made the Pro Bowl in 1978 and 1979. He played his college ball at Ole Miss and is the patriarch of the Manning quarterback family. His sons Eli and Peyton both won two Super Bowls during their playing careers. His oldest son is Cooper, who had to retire from football due to a spinal condition. Cooper is the father of Arch.

Texas coach Steve Sarkisian said earlier this month that Arch would have a chance to compete for the starting quarterback job. He is competing with last season’s starter Quinn Ewers for the job.

LSU student arrested for stealing $1,500 of beer from Tiger Stadium

An LSU student was arrested over the weekend for allegedly stealing beer from the campus football stadium.

LSU campus police caught a “group of college-aged males” carrying cases of beer around 3 a.m. on Sunday morning by Tiger Stadium. The men fled when they saw officers approaching them.

The officers reviewed stadium footage that showed the same men loading the cases of beer into a black pickup truck. The officers tracked the truck to a campus dormitory residence and found the owner in the dorm. They asked for permission to search the room and found the missing cases of beer.

According to WBRZ, approximately $1,500 of beer was stolen. A 19-year-old student was arrested for the alleged theft.

Those kids sure went big with their theft attempt. Maybe if they kept it reasonable at a case or two, they would have been fine. But $1,500 of beer? It’s hard to imagine nobody noticing that.

Joel Embiid facing notable hurdle in his bid for MVP?

As he closes in on the MVP award that has eluded him for his entire career, Joel Embiid may be facing an unforeseen foe.

The Philadelphia 76ers star Embiid was ruled out for Monday’s matchup against the Denver Nuggets due to a calf injury. Embiid’s absence denied fans the opportunity to see him go toe-to-toe with the NBA’s other top contender for MVP, Nuggets center Nikola Jokic.

The absence might also prove costly for Embiid in a different regard. Basketball statistician Jake Coyne noted that this is now Embiid’s 14th missed game of the season. Only one player has ever won NBA MVP during a season in which they had 12 or more absences (when Bill Walton won with the Portland Trail Blazers some 45 years ago).

Embiid’s MVP odds have recently made a big upward move, thanks largely to a recent eight-game winning streak for the 76ers. But while the games-played argument would also foreseeably affect a player like Milwaukee’s Giannis Antetokounmpo (who has missed 15 games so far this year), it wouldn’t so much with the durable Jokic (who only has a total of eight absences this year).

We know that Embiid is taking this year’s MVP race especially personally. He will be hoping that the voters do not penalize him for missing roughly 17 percent of the season (assuming Embiid plays every single game from here).

Michelle Beadle shares tragic family news on social media

Former ESPN host Michelle Beadle shared some tragic family news on social media Monday.

Beadle revealed in an Instagram post that her mother, Serenella Paladino, died unexpectedly this week following a fall at the family’s home. Beadle said her family is “understandably devastated and trying to figure out how to move forward.”

“This is, by far, the worst post I will ever make. And while my inclination is to keep it private, I also know that my mom was a badass and a firecracker and as time goes on, and she is inquired about, I won’t want to relive these words repeatedly,” Beadle wrote. “We lost her unexpectedly this week, after a fall in our home. My family is understandably devastated and trying to figure out how to move forward. And while things don’t quite seem real yet, we know that in time, we’ll be able to smile again and remember all the beautiful memories we made together.

“To those of you reading this for the first time, who knew and loved her, I’m sorry to deliver such shitty news this way. To those of you who have already reached out, on behalf of my brother, dad, Penny (her pug), and myself, thank you.”

Beadle, 47, works for the San Antonio Spurs. She also worked for FanDuel and The Athletic after leaving ESPN.

Beadle left ESPN Beadle left ESPN’s “Get Up!” last year after she spoke out against the sport of football and expressed anger over former Ohio State coach Urban Meyer not being fired amid the Zach Smith scandal. She then became the host of “NBA Countdown” before reaching a buyout agreement with ESPN in 2019.

John Lynch drops big hint about which QB will start for 49ers

The San Francisco 49ers will hold a yet another quarterback competition this offseason, but Brock Purdy seems likely to earn the starting job if healthy.

Niners general manager John Lynch was asked at the NFL owners meetings on Monday about the team’s QB situation. He described Purdy as “the leader in the clubhouse” to start for San Francisco in 2023.

“I think Brock has earned the right with the way he played that he is probably the leader in the clubhouse,” Lynch said. “I’ll let Kyle (Shanahan) make those kinds of decisions, but I know when we talk … I think Brock’s probably earned the right to be the guy. If we were to line up, he’d probably take that first snap.”

Lynch added that the 49ers are “really excited” with the way Trey Lance has progressed in his recovery from an ankle injury that ended his season in Week 2 last year. Lynch also said recently signed free agent Sam Darnold should be a “really good fit.”

The message, however, was straightforward. Purdy is recovering from elbow surgery. When doctors clear him, the Niners are committed to him. That is hardly a shock after Purdy led San Francisco to the NFC Championship Game.

Lance entered the 2022 season as the Niners’ starter even though Jimmy Garoppolo was on their roster. Lynch and company were completely committed to Lance at the time, but Lance’s injury and the way Purdy played changed things. There have even been rumors linking Lance to another team. If Purdy makes a quick recovery, a Lance trade is not out of the question.

Andy Reid gives notable hint about his coaching future

Kansas City Chiefs coach Andy Reid hinted before the Super Bowl that he might consider his future, though he put any rumors to rest after the game. Now, though, he is suggesting that might become a regular thing for him.

The 65-year-old admitted Monday that he is handling his future on a year-to-year basis. He once again made clear he has no plans to retire right now, but he does not know when that might change.

“That’s where I’m at right now,” Reid said, via Charean Williams of Pro Football Talk. “I don’t feel like I want to retire. I know I’m on the other side of it. I don’t know where the other side ends.”

Reid fueled speculation with what he said prior to the Super Bowl, but he did not let that talk linger for very long. It does make perfect sense for him to take things year-by-year, though it is pretty clear that, for now, he does not see himself on the verge of walking away.

Reid is 117-45 in ten seasons as Chiefs coach, with two Super Bowl wins to his name.

Willie McGinest sued over restaurant attack

Former NFL linebacker Willie McGinest has been sued over his alleged involvement in a brutal beating that took place at a restaurant last year.

According to legal documents obtained by TMZ, a man named Blake Adams has filed a lawsuit against McGinest in which he shared his side of what happened on Dec. 9.

Adams says he was dining at Delilah in West Hollywood, Calif., when he noticed McGinest walking past his table. Adams says he asked McGinest, a USC alum, about the Trojans most recent game, which was a loss to Utah in the Pac-12 Championship Game. McGinest allegedly responded by asking, “Why the f— are you talking to me?”

Adams says McGinest walked away before approaching him a short time later. The alleged victim claims McGinest asked him, “what did you say b–ch a– n—?” Adams, who says he was afraid, replied that he was “just a fan trying to say hello,” at which point McGinest allegedly punched Adams in the face. Several other people then got involved, and McGinest grabbed a glass bottle and began hitting Adams with it.

Surveillance footage that was obtained by TMZ last year appeared to show McGinest attacking a man using a bottle.

Adams says he suffered serious and permanent injuries from the attack. He is suing McGinest and the restaurant for unspecified damages.

McGinest earlier this month was charged with two felonies and is facing jail time if convicted.

McGinest, 51, won three Super Bowls with the Patriots. The former linebacker played college ball at USC before he was drafted by New England with the fourth overall pick in the 1994 NFL Draft. McGinest played for the Patriots until 2005 and then finished his career with the Cleveland Browns for three seasons. He made the Pro Bowl in 1996 and 2003.

McGinest has been working as an analyst for NFL Network for several years. He also had brief stints at FOX Sports and ESPN.

John Harbaugh responds to Lamar Jackson’s trade request

Lamar Jackson on Monday publicly revealed that he has asked for a trade, but it does not sound like the Baltimore Ravens are prepared to accommodate the request.

In a series of tweets addressed to his fans, Jackson said he asked to be traded on March 2. The star quarterback feels the Ravens are unwilling to pay him fair value, which is why he wants to part ways.

The tweets were sent just minutes before Ravens head coach John Harbaugh spoke with the media at the NFL owners meetings in Phoenix. Harbaugh said he had not seen what Jackson wrote but called Jackson “my guy” and said he expects the QB to remain in Baltimore.

Harbaugh also said he believes general manager Eric DeCosta has been consistent in his communication with Jackson.

The Ravens used the non-exclusive franchise tag on Jackson, which means the 26-year-old is free to negotiate with other teams. If Jackson were to receive an offer sheet, the Ravens would have a chance to match. He obviously does not want them to do that, though this may all be part of Jackson’s plan to pressure Baltimore to pay him more.

It has already been well established that there is one big issue between Jackson and the Ravens. Jackson’s trade request indicates he does not believe the two sides are going to find common ground.
