Former Hawaii star quarterback and ex-Raider Colt Brennan dies at 37

The college and NFL world is mourning the death of former Hawaii star quarterback and 2007 Heisman Trophy finalist Colt Brennan, who died Monday at age 37.

His father, Terry Brennan, told the Honolulu Star Advertiser that his son was found unconscious at a rehabilitation center over the weekend and he died Monday at a Newport Beach, California, hospital. His family was surrounding Brennan when he died, his father said. Brennan was at the rehab center for the past five months after suffering severe injuries as a passenger in a head-on collision after his football career ended.

Brennan was a NCAA record-breaking quarterback and put the Hawaii program at the top of the college football spectrum from 2005-2007. Washington drafted Brennan in the sixth round of the 2008 NFL draft. He was cut in 2010 and he signed with the Oakland Raiders soon after.

Brennan spent training camp and he played some in the the preseason with the Raiders that summer. He was cut before the season started and never played in the NFL again.

Our condolences go out to Brennan’s family and friends.
