Did a former Bengals practice squad player help end Aaron Rodgers’ Packers career?

While the NFL Draft got ‘most’ of the attention last week, Aaron Rodgers did his best to be at the center of attention.

By now, you probably have heard Rodgers is seeking a trade from the Green Bay Packers. While there have several reasons for his demand emerge, one of them involves a former Cincinnati Bengals practice squad player.

Jake Kumerow, who spent most of the 2015-16 seasons on the Bengals’ practice squad, later joined the new England Patriots’ practice squad, then was released and later joined the Packers’ practice squad before signing a futures contract for the 2018 season.

After spending much of the 2018 season on injured reserve, Kumerow was activated to the 53-man roster in December and impressed enough to get re-signed the following offseason.

In 2019, Kumerow played in 14 games and caught 12 balls for 219 yards and one score.

Going into the 2020 season, Kumerow drew praise from Rodgers, only to be cut just days before spending the rest of the year with the Buffalo Bills.

While a nice success story, Kumerow certainly doesn’t sound like the kind of player Rodgers would demand a trade over, right?

Well…

I doubt this is truly the case, but just the thought of it is quite hilarious.
