Mac McClung will wear his third different college uniform in as many years next season if he returns to school as expected.

After two years at Georgetown and one year at Texas Tech, McClung has again entered the NCAA Transfer Portal while also testing the NBA Draft waters. His decision comes after Red Raiders head coach Chris Beard left the school to return to his alma mater of Texas.

Another reason why McClung was ready to leave Lubbock is that he wants to find a school that will get him NBA ready.

“What we saw at Texas Tech, there’s a fit,” McClung’s high school coach Scott Vermillion told Kentucky Sports Radio last week. “There was some structure to where he’s learning to play a style of game that will translate to the next level. Somewhere where he’s preparing himself for the NBA. The kid wants to be coached. Coach Beard would take him out, coach him, and put him back in–that was how it worked. Some places didn’t do that. Some places take players out and don’t put them back in.”

With McClung looking for a school to take him to the NBA, it comes as no surprise Kentucky is in the mix to land the talented guard.

McClung, who averaged 15.5 points per game for the Red Raiders, has heard from UK, Gonzaga, Texas, Georgia, Memphis, NC State, Minnesota, Boston College and Florida since announcing his departure from Lubbock.

Nearly all of these schools have produced a handful of NBA Draft picks in recent years but none at the rate of Kentucky.
