Mocking the Mocks: Daniel Jeremiah has the Bears going offensive line

The first mock draft from NFL.com’s Daniel Jeremiah has four quarterbacks going in his top eight picks, and he has the Chicago Bears going with offensive lineman Jalen Mayfield from Michigan. Here’s what he had to say about the redshirt sophomore.

“The Bears could use Mayfield at tackle or slide him inside to guard. I love the way he finishes in the run game.”

Mayfield is his fifth offensive lineman off his mock draft board in what many pundits have called a deep class for offensive tackles.

Jacob Infante, our lead draft analyst, has Mayfield rated as his 74th overall prospect and his 10th overall offensive tackle in his latest top 100 Player Big Board.

I asked Jacob his thoughts on the Bears possibly taking Mayfield at 20, and here’s what he had to say.

I wouldn’t take him in the first round. He’s a good player with a big frame and a nasty edge, but I feel like he’s strictly a day two guy. He doesn’t have premier athletic upside, and he’s a work in progress with his hand usage and pad level. There are worse picks out there they could make, but I think that’s a reach.

Mayfield won’t turn 21-years old until May, and he only has 15 total starts for the Wolverines.

If the real draft were to fall this way, the Bears would have been able to take the player that Jeremiah had going at 24 to the Steelers, Oklahoma State right tackle Teven Jenkins. He’s Jacob’s OT7 and his 48th overall prospect.

What do you guys think about this mock draft? Is this how you would have done it?
