Live Updates: Battle Miami 7-on-7 tournament

The 7-on-7 season in South Florida kicks off the weekend with a two-day tournament hosted by Battle Sports. The event is drawing teams from around the country with clubs from California, Texas, Nevada, Lousiana, Pennsylvania, Maryland and Virginia all expected. 247Sports will have boots on the ground as there will be no shortage of talent running around with at least four five-star prospects set to be on hand in addition to 15 more prospects from the class of 20223 that are currently ranked inside the Top247. Read on for more below.

Note: All prospects are class of 2022 unless noted. All rankings from the industry-generated 247Sports Composite.

Ground Zero

The group from Los Angeles will be back to defend its title and the roster doesn’t lack some star power with five-star cornerback Domani Jackson, Top247 athlete Larry Turner-Gooden and Top247 wide receiver Samuel Mbake all set to lace up the cleats and catch passes from a pair of notable 2023 quarterbacks in Malachi Singleton and Carson Conklin. 

Jackson is the nation’s No. 1-ranked cornerback prospect. Ohio State, USC, Michigan and plenty of others are battling for his signature. Turner-Gooden holds over 30 scholarship offers including ones from Alabama, Notre Dame and Clemson. Mbake has spoken highly of Georgia, Miami and Penn State in the past. Singleton holds early tenders from both Virginia Tech and Georgia Tech. Conklin has been offered by Arizona State and Kansas.

Lousiana Bootleggers

There won’t be a team with more dues in the secondary that the Bootleggers. The defense is home to Top247 safety Bryce Anderson, Top247 cornerback Jyaire Brown, Top247 safety Jacoby Mathews, Top247 cornerback Khamauri Rogers and Top247 cornerback Laterrance Welch in addition to three-star cornerback Jordan Allen. Anderson is committed to LSU. Brown is an Ohio State commit. Mathews, Rogers, Welch and Allen are all hearing from a number of SEC programs.

On offense, the Bootleggers will look to get the ball to Top247 wide receiver Shazz Preston, LSU three-star wide receiver commit Decoldest Crawford and three-star wide receiver Amorion Walker. Top247 athlete Kendrick Law will get reps on both offense and defense.

South Florida Express

One of three local teams in the bracket, SFE’s roster features plenty of youth. The team’s best player is Brandon Inniss, who is the No. 1-ranked wide receiver in the class of 2023. Flanking him on offense will be three-star wide receiver Mike Jackson, three-star athlete Jamarrien Burt and fellow 2023 wideouts Santana Fleming and British Mitchell.

A pair of Ocala-based defensive backs are making the trek down south in Jaydon Hodge and Izaiah Guy to work alongside three-star cornerback Ryan Turner, three-star cornerback Elijah Mc-Cantos and 2023 Top247 cornerback Antonio Robinson. Nasir Bowers, a three-star cornerback from Lakeland, will also be in the rotation.

True Buzz

New Texas four-star Top247 wide receiver commit Armani Winfield headlines True Buzz’s roster. He figures to be a top target for three-star quarterback Garret Rangel, who holds multiple Power 5 offers. Kansas three-star wide receiver commit Xavion Brice, SMU three-star wide receiver commit Savion Red and 2023 wide receiver Montrel Hatten are three more weapons at Rangle’s disposal. 

Defensively, the Tru Buzz unit will be led by three-star linebacker Kailep Edwards and 2023 safety Jaden Milliner-Jones. Mississippi State is the current 247Sports’ Crystal Ball leader for Edwards.

Game Changer Sports Academy

The 702 will be represented by Game Changer Sports Academy. They are bringing Top247 safety Zion Branch, Top247 wide receiver Germie Bernard, three-star athlete Anthony Jones, three-star running back Cam Barfield and 2022 Top247 wide receiver Zachariah Brown with them along with plenty of other future FBS players.

Branch is the nation’s No. 3-ranked safety. Pretty much every college football blue blood has offered. Bernard and Jones are both committed to Washington. Barfield and Brown have been offered by Arizona State.

Sound Mind Sound Body

SMSB is out of Detroit. Their roster features a trio of blue-chippers in five-star cornerback Will Johnson, Top247 wide receiver Antonio Gates Jr. and Top247 2023 quarterback Dante Moore along with four-star wide receiver Tay’shawn Trent, three-star athlete Cornell Perry and 2023 quarterback Drew Viotto.

Johnson is the nation’s No. 3-ranked cornerback prospect. Gates is the son of former NFL tight end Antonio Gates. Michigan State is already viewed as the favorite to land his signature. Moore’s offer sheet includes schools like Michigan, Oregon and Penn State.


There will be a “pull up” game on Friday night and that pits SMSB against Defcon, which is based out of the greater Fort Lauderdale area. Notable recruits on Defcon’s roster include: Top247 safety Alfonzo Allen, four-star defensive back Jaylin Marshall, three-star wide receiver Devaughn Mortimer, Georgia Tech wide receiver commit Jullian Lewis and three-star safety Websley Etienne. To more defenders of note are Anthony Rose and Edric Weldon. Both have plenty of size and have picked up offers from around the country in recent weeks.

Miami Immortals 

The Immortals are the third South Florida team in the field. Quarterbacking the Miami-Dade squad will be a pair of three-stars in Carson Haggard and Zion Turner. Those will have no shortage of targets with 2023 Top247 wide receiver Jalen Brown running routes along with three-star tight end De’Carlo Donaldson, three-star wide receiver Zaylan Reese and 2023 wide receiver Andy Jean.

On the other side of the ball, two of the Sunshine State’s top linebackers will be dropping back into coverage in Wesley Bissainthe and Travious Lathan. Both are members of the Top247 and have schools like Miami, FSU and Florida State on their short list of favorites.

Tuscon Turf

Flying all the way in from Arizona is the Tuscon Turf. They will run the offense through three-star quarterback Treyson Bourguet, who was previously committed to Kevin Sumlin and the in-state Wildcats. The team’s top two wide receivers are four-stars Kyion Grayes and Shawn Miller. Grayes also recently backed off a commitment to UA. Multiple forecasts have been logged in favor of Ohio State on his Crystal Ball. Miller has talked up Miami and West Virginia before.

Others of interest on the roster include: 2023 Top247 cornerback Cole Martin, three-star safety Trevon Howard and three-star running back Quaron Adams. Howard is a teammate of Miller’s at IMG Academy. 


Another program traveling across the country is Pala, which has a roster full of kids from California and Utah. The big name to know is five-star running back Raleek Brown as he’s the nation’s No. 3-ranked running back and considered a major priority for schools like Oklahoma. Joining him on Palu’s offense is four-star tight end Carsen Ryan. He recently put BYU, Nebraska, Washington, Colorado, Virginia and UCLA on his short list of favorites.

Micah Wilson, who is the younger brother of future NFL quarterback Zach Wilson, will play linebacker for the team. Carson Suesue is a 2024 athlete that figures to be a national recruit.


Arriving from Virginia will be March1. The team has a notable trio on their roster in  Top247 running back Ramon Brown, three-star safety Sherrod Covil and three-star cornerback Akim Sledge.

Brown has gone 4.53 in the 40-yard dash and is hearing from Penn State, West Virginia, Virginia and Virginia Tech. Covil was named “Alpha Dog” of The Show by 247Sports last month after a strong performance. Virginia Tech recently picked up a forecast on his 247Sports’ Crystal Ball, but he has made it clear in the past that he’s interested in Notre Dame.

Team Flexx

Team Flexx is out of Maryland and packing some firepower with three-star quarterback Jayden Sauray under center and four-star wide receiver Peter Kikwata split out wide. On defense, there will be a trio of three-star cornerbacks roaming around in Jamal Hood, Mansoor Delane and Cam Johnson.

Mike Locksley’s Terps have been linked to Sauray in the past. Kikwate recently named a top eight that included Auburn, Boston College, Florida State, Kentucky, Maryland, Pittsburgh, West Virginia and Penn State. Hood is committed to Jeff Hafley’s Eagles. Deland and Johnson both have talked with a variety of different schools.

Burch Sports Performance

Ohio State five-star cornerback commit Jaheim Singletary plays for Burch Sports Performance, which trains kids in Jacksonville and the surrounding areas. The nation’s No. 5-ranked cornerback will also line up at wide receiver. Thomas Castellanos will be one of the team’s quarterback. He holds a few Group of 5 offers and a bid from Kansas. Jadin Jones is a linebacker that will go both ways.


The Playmakers return after playing in last year’s tournament. The team is made up most of prospects from Philadelphia. This year’s roster features three-star wide receiver Kevin Thomas and three-star cornerback Raleigh Collins III. Thomas is talking with Florida. Michigan State, Nebraska and others have been in contact. Collins attended a game at Penn State this past season and recently did a virtual visit with West Virginia.


The coaches of the Dreamchasers are high on a few of their players including athlete Arnold Strachan, safety Tavares Williams, 2023 defensive end Gavin Hill. Hill, who will play tight end this weekend, and was offered by Georgia Tech earlier this week.
