Carson Wentz declines to speak with media following report that he wants the Eagles to trade him

Carson Wentz “politely” declined the opportunity to join some of his Philadelphia Eagles teammates in talking to reporters via Zoom on Monday following the team’s final 2020 regular season game.

This is a newsworthy development for multiple reasons.

For starters, it’s pretty standard for a team’s prolific quarterback to speak with media after the season. Comes with the territory of being the face of the franchise. Wentz suffering a concussion prevented him from meeting with the media soon after last year’s finale but he previously fielded questions in 2016, 2017, and 2018.

It’s also hard not to read into Wentz declining to speak to reporters just one day after ESPN’s Chris Mortensen reported that his relationship with the Eagles has been “fractured” and that he’s expected to request a trade. Wentz could’ve distanced himself from that report (or confirmed it!) but he did chose not to do so.

It remains to be seen if we’ll hear from Wentz directly in the near future. In the meantime, Howie Roseman and Doug Pederson have expressed that he’s still part of the Eagles’ future. Of course, that’s a stance they need to maintain whether they’re keeping him or trading him.

Wentz’s silence does nothing to quell thought that he won’t be back with the Eagles in 2021.
