Oklahoma-West Virginia game postponed due to COVID-19

Saturday’s previously scheduled game between Oklahoma and West Virginia in Morgantown, W.V., has been postponed, the Big 12 announced on Wednesday. The matchup has been rescheduled for Dec. 12 with the time and television information to be announced at a later date.

Oklahoma separately announced that it has paused team activities due to positive COVID-19 tests as well as contact tracing within the team. In West Virginia’s release, the Mountaineers said Oklahoma fell below at least one of the Big 12’s roster thresholds.

“I am disappointed for both teams, who have worked extremely hard in their preparation for this weekend’s game,” said West Virginia athletic director Shane Lyons in a release. “We will now look forward to honoring our seniors and hosting the Sooners on Dec 12.”

This game has significant ramifications for the Big 12 title as well as potential New Year’s Six bowls, as Oklahoma is in second place in the league at 6-2 overall (5-2 Big 12). West Virginia won’t be an easy opponent, as the Mountaineers are 5-3 overall (4-3 Big 12) with an undefeated record at home.
