Injury updates: Matthew Stafford x-rays negative, shouldn’t miss time

Detroit Lions fans held their breath as their quarterback, yet again, looked to be facing what could’ve been a serious injury. In the first quarter of his Week 10 game against the Washington Football Team, Matthew Stafford took a rough sack. When the drive was over, Stafford went to the sideline and got his throwing hand taped up around his thumb.

Stafford did not end up missing a snap from Sunday’s game, but in his postgame press conference, he certainly didn’t make it sound like the injury had just passed.

“I’ve got to go get it looked at,” Stafford said. “But just I don’t know what happened. It was only a play where I got sacked. They had a personal foul, so the next time I gripped the ball to throw it, it didn’t feel so hot, but I’ll let you know later.”

Well, it turns out everything may be okay with Stafford. According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Stafford’s post-game x-rays came back negative, and the current belief is he will not miss next game.

“Though he may be limited some this week, the initial belief is he won’t miss game time,” Rapoport tweeted Monday morning.

However, the Lions quarterback isn’t completely cleared to play yet. According to Rapoport, there are still more tests to go on Stafford’s hand:

In other Lions injury news, defensive end Trey Flowers, who remains currently on injured reserve, posted this picture of himself in Detroit on Instagram, giving us a better look at what may be ailing him:

There looks to be a pretty significant cast/sling on his right arm (the image is mirrored). Flowers has now missed two games due to the injury, which means he’s technically eligible to return after Week 11’s game against the Carolina Panthers, but this photo suggests he may be a bit further off than that.

The Lions also suffered a few in-game injuries against Washington. Lions nickel cornerback Justin Coleman left the game with knee injury, but he ended up returning in the second half. Additionally, wide receiver Danny Amendola left the game late with a hip injury. His status remains unknown.
