247Sports’ Bud Elliott posed a simple question back in early May: Is an epic season of decommitments coming?
At the time, there were more prospects in the class of 2021 that had made public commitments at that stage in the recruiting process than the previous two recruiting cycles combined.
Elliott noted that one of the main reasons why so many recruits were picking schools when they did was because of the NCAA’s temporary recruiting dead period, which hasn’t allowed anyone to visit anywhere since early March.
While Elliott hypothesized that fall visits could eventually lead to a bunch of decommitments, recent 247Sports data suggests that prospects don’t even need to tour college campuses and meet face-to-face with college coaches to change their minds and flip somewhere else. Over the past month, nine prospects have flipped their commitments to a Power 5 school. More flips are likely on the way as staff’s evaluate their commits lists with the Early Signing Period, which is set to run from Dec. 16-18, right around the corner.
Below, we take a look at some of the more notable flips in recent weeks.
