Rams sign former UK kicker Austin MacGinnis to practice squad

The Los Angeles Rams are signing former Kentucky Wildcats kicker Austin MacGinnis to the practice squad, according to NFL reporter Mike Garafolo.

MacGinnis actually signed with the Rams this past offseason to compete for the kicker job, which he ultimately lost to Sam Sloman before being waived during final cuts.

However, Sloman has struggled this season and was just cut by the Rams, who also signed veteran kicker Kai Forbath last week. Forbath will likely be the primary kicker with MacGinnis waiting in the wings on the practice squad.

Prior to getting his first NFL shot, MacGinnis played in both the Canadian Football League and most recently for the XFL’s Dallas Renegades. His time with the Renegades was cut short after the league suspended operations due to the COVID-19 pandemic. He successfully kicked all 10 of his field goals for the Renegades.

The eight-ranked kicker coming out of high school in 2013, MacGinnis kicked for the Wildcats for four seasons and was the primary option for three, successfully completing 102/104 extra points and 51/64 field goals.
