Good morning, Broncos Country!
Perhaps it’s the fact we haven’t seen a capable offense in over five years from the Broncos and any semblance of such we lap up like thirst-quenched travelers in the desert.
So it’s possible this is all a mirage.
But I don’t think it is.
For all of the talk that Denver didn’t score touchdowns against the New England Patriots, Lock still had the offense moving the ball efficiently and effectively. He still led six scoring drives against a really good defense and even better defensive mind in Bill Belichick.
I have a feeling Lock and the Broncos offense will continue to improve and get better each week. They’ll still have their moments when they struggle. They’ll make mistakes. They’ll turn the ball over. They’ll drop the ball. But as the season progresses, the good will outweigh the bad.
Will that be enough for Denver to end the five-year, nine-game losing streak to the Kansas City Chiefs? I don’t think so, but the chance is there for the Broncos to pull the upset.
The return of tight end Noah Fant, receiver KJ Hamler and running back Melvin Gordon will certainly help. On the defense side of the ball, the return of cornerback A.J. Bouye is huge for the secondary. His presence alone will improves the Broncos defense.
Denver may not end the losing streak to the Chiefs. But for the first time in five years, there’s the path for the Broncos to finally compete with Kansas City.
It’s been a long five years and Broncos Country is ready for a drink.
Each Saturday, I do a segment on Denver radio station ESPN 1600 AM. On this week’s Broncos Blast, we preview the Broncos and Kansas City game. I think Denver covers the spread and keeps it closer than the sportsbooks think.
