Nobody had a more clutch performance over the weekend than Arkansas defensive back Hudson Clark.
An unranked walk-on, Ole Miss targeted Clark four times on Saturday afternoon. Clark finished the game with a trio of interceptions – pushing him to the top of the national leaderboard for the season – as the Razorbacks pulled the upset.
Asked postgame Saturday if people had ever heard of Clark, Pittman quipped: “Well, they’ve heard of him now. Three times at least.” Pittman awarded Clark a scholarship the next day. That’s how quickly unknown freshmen can emerge as household names.
Clark is far from alone. It’s hard to believe, but for many conferences, we’re nearly halfway through the 2020 season. Given the amount of football we’ve seen, it’s a great time to take a moment and look at some of the breakout freshman (of the redshirt and true variety) stars of the year. These are future headliners in college football for years to come.
