Predictions for college football’s best Week 8 games

Big Ten football kicks off this weekend and with that comes several must-see matchups involving Top 25 competition. For Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh, his Wolverines travel to Minnesota, a team flying under the radar a bit nationally despite its Top 25 ranking.

Michigan quarterback Joe Milton is expected to make his first career starter against a Golden Gophers squad that welcomes back several key members of last season’s 11-win team.

“I feel great about our team in terms of talent,” Harbaugh said this week. “I feel really good about them in terms of competitiveness and oneness. Probably the most important thing, nothing more important than team and oneness. So, you know, all those things really good. Last piece is just assignments and, you know, chasing perfection in terms of knowing what to do or line up.

“Know how to do it and then just letting it rip in the first ballgame, in the opener.”

I’m going to blame UCF for spoiling what would’ve been a stellar weekend in the picks department last Saturday. The late comeback from Memphis spoiled what would’ve been a 6-1 mark against the spread, but I’ll take substantial improvement regardless. Here’s our updated records for season: Brad Crawford — Straight up: 35-16; Against the spread: 26-25; Chris Hummer — Straight up: 34-17; ATS: 24-27.

Onto this week’s biggest games in college football:
