Projecting the AP Top 25 rankings after Week 7

With all eyes Saturday night focused on Alabama’s unbeaten showdown vs. Georgia, unranked Florida State pulled off the shocker of Week 7 with a 31-28 victory over fifth-ranked North Carolina, handing the Tar Heels their first loss of the season. The Seminoles led by 24 points at halftime before holding on in the final moment with a late defensive stand.

In the other primetime game, Alabama scored 21 unanswered points to stay unbeaten, taking out Georgia, 41-24. Nick Saban was cleared to coach the Crimson Tide after receiving his third consecutive negative test for COVID-19 earlier in the day and improved to 22-0 all-time vs. former assistants.

Teams we expect to fall out of the rankings this week include Louisiana, Tennessee and Auburn. Kentucky snapped a 36-year losing skid in Knoxville with a dominating 34-7 win over the Vols while Auburn fell flat out offensively at South Carolina. It was Gamecocks coach Will Muschamp’s first home win over a ranked team since his first season in 2016.

Liberty is one of a couple 5-0 teams this season following Saturday’s win, but don’t expect the Flames and coach Hugh Freeze to be ranked on Sunday after beating Syracuse. Liberty didn’t get a single Top 25 vote last week and there’s a number of squads who won this week ahead of the Flames who will likely get more love from voters.

Here’s our best guess at Sunday’s Week 8 AP Top 25 rankings:
