It took all of a half for Spencer Rattler to emerge as college football star in Oklahoma’s opener against Missouri State. By the end of the second quarter, Rattler had thrown for 290 yards and four touchdowns on just 14-for-17 passing. FCS Missouri State is no juggernaut, but nobody doubts Rattler’s status as a standout exiting the game.
In fact, Rattler has the fourth-best Heisman Trophy odds of any player in the sport, including re-added Big Ten players. That speaks to how quickly he’s gone from backup to household name.
Rattler is hardly alone. While few players will likely match his star power, the first three weeks of the college football season have already provided a glimpse at some breakout players. Who cares if it’s a small sample size? We think these guys are on the track toward stardom.
