The Colts’ latest roster move comes after veteran Pro Bowl tight end Jack Doyle was declared out for Sunday’s home opener as a result of an ankle/knee injury.
By elevating Green, the Colts ensure that the team has three healthy tight ends against the Minnesota Vikings, as Green will join Mo Alie-Cox and recently claimed undrafted rookie tight end Noah Togiai.
Green is a fellow undrafted rookie himself, having been signed by the Colts in late April following the 2020 NFL Draft out of Mississippi State.
The 6’3”, 245 pound tight end had 21 receptions for 257 receiving yards (12.2 ypr. avg.) and a touchdown reception in 13 starts during his senior season for the Bulldogs.
He flashed some ability as both a pass catcher and blocker during Colts training camp:

Still, with veteran tight end Trey Burton also on IR, the Colts current trio of healthy tight ends is very inexperienced as the group has 26 career games (3 starts) between the three players—all of which can be attributed solely to Alie-Cox—as both Togiai and Green have never appeared in an actual NFL game.
Nevertheless, it’s ‘next man up’ again in Indianapolis.
