Chargers sign former RB Troymaine Pope to practice squad

After the Chargers brought in five different running backs for workouts earlier this week, it looks like the team went with the most-familiar option. On Friday morning, the Chargers announced that they are re-signing Troymaine Pope to the practice squad to fill the space left by fullback Gabe Nabers, who was promoted to the active roster on Thursday.

The former Jets and Seahawks running back played in 14 games for the Chargers in 2019, finishing with just 20 yards on 10 carries while averaging 20.6 yards on 14 punt returns.

With this signing, I’m not sure what it exactly means for Justin Jackson’s health, but I think the safe bet is he won’t be playing against the Chiefs this Sunday. As of Thursday’s practice, he had yet to participate in any facet, which is usually a sign that he won’t be suiting up this week. While nothing has been made official, I believe the Chargers will bring up UDFA Darius Bradwell this Sunday as part of the two extra players the team is allowed to dress on game days.
