Three Vanderbilt players were named to the preseason All-SEC team, and predictably, all three are on the defensive side of the ball. Defensive lineman Dayo Odeyingbo was selected to the second team, while linebackers Dimitri Moore and Andre Mintze were picked on the third team. Meanwhile, Greg Arias asks how good the defense can be under new coordinator Ted Roof.
The Hustler has a roundtable about the quarterback competition, with a surprising number of picks for true freshman Mike Wright. Also, the Hustler has writers with the title “Writer In Training,” which I believe is going to be our new name for Anchor of Gold commenters.
We’re not going to talk about the U.S. Open. Okay, we are: Vanderbilt golfer John Augenstein shot a 4-over par 74 on Thursday, which was better than the two actual professional golfers who graduated from Vanderbilt: Brandt Snedeker was a shot worse, a 5-over par 75, while Matthias Schwab shot a 7-over par 77 yesterday. Also, we apologize for not including Schwab among the list of former players in the field yesterday, and were quickly corrected by none other than Joe Fisher.
Five Vanderbilt soccer players are on the SEC preseason watch list, and the Hustler talks about the incoming freshmen. (Remember, DotP is our soccer guy now.) The soccer team starts the regular season on Sunday.
The women’s basketball team named Marqu’es Webb, a former player, as an assistant coach on Thursday.
Actual Sports on TV
All times Central.
And here’s your MLB.TV schedule. Free game of the day: Cardinals–Pirates at 3:05 PM. The SEC Network schedule, which I have lately been posting mostly to shit on how often they have on Paul Finebaum, does actually have a live soccer game between Mississippi State and Auburn at 6.
Also, am I considering putting up an open thread tonight for Campbell-Coastal Carolina? Yes.
