The Big 12 Conference and its television partners have announced that TCU’s Sept. 26 season-opening home football game versus Iowa State will have a 12:30 p.m. kickoff and be televised on FS1.
The Horned Frogs will be facing the Cyclones in a season opener for the first time since 1998, in Head Coach Gary Patterson’s first game as a Horned Frog. Serving as TCU’s defensive coordinator at the time, Patterson was on the sidelines as the Horned Frogs won 31-21 in Ames.
TCU will have a conference game as its opening contest for the first time since 2008, when it won 26-3 at New Mexico in Mountain West play.
The Frogs’ planned season opener, against SMU, was delayed due to COVID issues within the program. Seven Big 12 schools played for the first time Saturday, and two more — Baylor and Oklahoma State — are expected to open 2020 Saturday.
TCU could potentially have Max Duggan back at quarterback on the 26th, as the true sophomore has begun practicing in a limited capacity, according to reports, after having a procedure to correct a congenital heart defect. Unfortunately, he may not be joined in the backfield by a couple of fellow second-year players, as both Darwin Barlow and Daimarqua Foster are dealing with injuries themselves.
We will continue to update the health and depth chart as more information becomes available.
