The theme of the 2020 season continues to be ‘new faces’ for the Carolina Panthers as today they announced six captains for the upcoming season. Among them are three players who joined the team this year via free agency.
The captains are Teddy Bridgewater, Christian McCaffrey, Russell Okung, Kawaan Short, Shaq Thompson, and Tahir Whitehead. They are evenly split between offense and defense and represent the bulk of the Panthers veteran talent.
The three captains who didn’t join as free agents this year are also the only players on the roster to be drafted by the Panthers and extended to a second contract. Safety Tre Boston was released before the end of his rookie contract and played for a year each with the Los Angeles Chargers and the Arizona Cardinals before returning to the Panthers this season.
The Panthers are hoping to start a new crop of homegrown talent under Matt Rhule. These are the veterans the team is hoping will lead them. 2020 starts in three days for the Panthers, do you think they are going to be up for the challenge?
