BOOM! 2021 DB Latrell McCutchin commits to Oklahoma

It’s been a long time coming since his March 1 decommitment from the Alabama Crimson Tide, but the Oklahoma Sooners have Latrell McCutchin’s name on the board following his July 4 commitment announcement. The four-star CB out of Austin’s LBJ High School also picked OU over the likes of Florida, Florida State, Georgia, LSU, Ohio State, Penn State and Texas A&M.

If you’re thinking to yourself “why does that name sound oddly familiar?” (besides the fact Oklahoma has been recruiting McCutchin for a while now) — it’s because Latrell was actually on the show “Friday Night Tykes” when he was in sixth grade.

McCutchin was once an Alabama commitment until Lincoln Riley and Alex Grinch pursued him harder. Latrell felt a better opportunity for playing time as well as fit into the defensive scheme, so he found a home in Norman, Okla.

Something Sooner fans will like about their new DB commit is that RJ Young from 247Sports reported McCutchin saying that “Texas can take their offer back.” That is music to every fans’ ears that wear the crimson and cream. From Friday Night Tyke to “Friday Night Star,” McCutchin has the exact measurables you want to see in Grinch’s “Speed D.” The defensive back stands at 6’1, nearly 180 lbs. — Grinch has been adamant that he would rather have big defensive backs that can jam receivers at the line of scrimmage and bat down footballs with length, but also come up in run support without much issue.

McCutchin is the 10th commit for the 2021 recruiting cycle for the Sooners and the second defensive back of the class. According to 247Sports Composite rankings, he is the No. 11 overall rated Cornerback and the No. 123 player in the nation, making him the most talented 2021 Sooner signee at the moment. McCtuchin can play both cornerback and safety because he has the football IQ to do so, it’s hard to see him not finding the field in some capacity over the next couple of years for Oklahoma.
