Bevo’s Daily Roundup: Check the tape – Texas has stars in RB Bijan Robinson, QB Hudson Card

Incoming Texas Longhorns freshman running back Bijan Robinson and quarterback Hudson Card are getting reps in this summer, according to a practice clip of the two released over the weekend. And to say the least, judging off of pure athleticism alone, it’s impressive.

NEWS ACROSS THE LONGHORN REPUBLIC AND BEYOND

  • Ball State Cardinals assistant softball coach Megan Ciolli Bartlett is heading south to join the Longhorns, the Austin American-Statesman reports. From the Statesman: “Ciolli Bartlett will replace Chelsea Spencer, a longtime lieutenant for Texas coach Mike White. Spencer was hired to lead the softball program at Cal in May. … Ciolli Bartlett had been in charge of Ball State’s program since the 2016 season. The Cardinals went 22-32 and lost twice to Texas in Ciolli Bartlett’s first campaign, but the team won at least 30 games in each of the next three seasons. Ciolli Bartlett compiled a 141-108 record at Ball State. Her 2020 team boasted an 18-9 record when this season was cut short by the coronavirus pandemic.”
  • Here’s an interesting thought from Sports Illustrated – what if Baker Mayfield played at Texas? From SI: “On Thursday, ESPN decided to tease former Oklahoma quarterback Baker Mayfield by posting a picture of former Heisman winners dressed in their collegiate rival’s jerseys. Cleveland Brown and former Oklahoma Sooner Baker Mayfield was included in the graphic. On Instagram, Mayfield commented on the post from ESPN, saying that if he had to play for the Longhorns he would “rather quit” than wear the burnt orange. ESPN also posted other college legends including Tim Tebow, Matt Leinart, Derrick Henry, and Eddie George.”
  • CBS Sports ranks Longhorn alum and current Baltimore Ravens kicker Justin Tucker the NFL’s best. This is Sports Illustrated’s take on the ranking: “Former Texas kicker Justin Tucker headlined the list, ranking No. 1 at his spot. Tucker is the NFL’s leader in accuracy with a 90.2 hit rate. In fact, he’s currently the most accurate placekicker in NFL history. When his storied career comes to an end one day, he’ll likely be a lock for the NFL Hall of Fame.”
