Golden Nuggets: Shanahan has the ninth-best odds to be NFL’s Coach of the Year

San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan was the NFL’s runner up in the AP NFL Coach of the Year award in 2019 after losing out to Jon Harbaugh of the Baltimore Ravens. Harbaugh had 13 more first-place votes than Shanahan. While many fans felt that Shanahan was snubbed, it’d be even harder for Shanahan to win the award with his team coming off a year where they dominated the NFC en route to a Super Bowl appearance.

SportsBetting.ag released their Coach of the Year predictions, and Shanahan is closer to tenth than he is first:

Odds:

1st: Bill Belichick +1200

T-1st: Bruce Arians +1200

3rd: Mike McCarthy +1400

4th: Frank Reich +1600

5th: Andy Reid +1800

T-5th: Kevin Stefanski +1800

T-5th: Kliff Kingsbury +1800

T-5th: Sean McDermott +1800

9th: Kyle Shanahan +2000

10th: Mike Vrabel +2200

Arians being second is absurd. These rankings will take advantage of the general public overrating Tom Brady, the Dallas Cowboys, and the typical off-season media darlings such as the Cleveland Browns and the Arizona Cardinals.

I wouldn’t bet against Belichick, though him being first suggests he might be landing a former Carolina Panthers quarterback unless Jared Stidham turns out to be a star. As mentioned above, Shanahan is coming into the season with expectations, which makes it even tougher to win the Coach of the Year award. Do you feel as if Kyle should be ranked higher? There isn’t a significant difference between him and the fourth spot, and that’s a compliment to Shanahan and the Niners.
