Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has added to the uncertainty regarding Paul Pogba‘s future by refusing to confirm that the midfielder will play for Manchester United again.

Pogba hasn’t played since December 26 because of an ankle injury and he has been heavily linked with a departure from Old Trafford.

United manager Solskjaer was asked whether Pogba will play for the club again but only stated that he would ‘like’ the Frenchman to feature in the remainder of this season.

As reported by The Mirror, Solskjaer said: ‘Well, of course, I’d like to say that, as soon as he gets fit, he’ll be good enough to play for the team. I’m sure Paul’s desperate to play for us again.’

Solskjaer was also asked why Pogba didn’t travel with the United squad for a training camp in Marbella during the winter break.

He said: ‘I don’t have to justify every decision.

‘He’s been in and around here, and of course I okayed him doing his recovery somewhere else.

‘As a player, the last thing you want to be is injured. Paul’s a footballer and he wants to play football.

‘He knows he has to work hard now to get back to his best. He’s been out now for so long now, it’s a challenge for him as well to get back into shape.’

It has been a hugely frustrating season for Pogba, with injuries having restricted him to just seven Premier League appearances.

The 26-year-old has shown glimpses of his quality since returning to United in 2016, but has found consistency difficult to come by.

Real Madrid and his former club Juventus are seen as possible destinations should Pogba leave.

United, who are in ninth place in the Premier League, return to action on Monday night when they face Chelsea away.
