‘How could we think about giving a player to anyone?’: Jurgen Klopp says Liverpool will NOT sell anyone in the January transfer window amid Roma and Sevilla interest in Xherdan Shaqiri
- Jurgen Klopp has no desire to sell any Liverpool players in the January window
- The Liverpool boss had to rely on youngsters a lot during their December games
- Roma and Sevilla have an interest in attacking midfielder Xherdan Shaqiri
Sevilla and Roma made tentative approaches regarding a loan deal for Xherdan Shaqiri, who is currently not fit, but the Reds boss said the plan was for no one to leave as the Premier League leaders seek to secure their first title in 30 years.
‘We had the majority of December and January with a bench full of kids. Wonderful kids, but kids, so how could we think about giving a player to anyone? I don’t understand that,’ said Klopp.
Jurgen Klopp says Xherdan Shaqiri will not be leaving Liverpool in the January window
‘It’s not about Shaq, it’s pretty much everybody. We just have to keep them for sorting our situation and not the situation for different clubs.
‘If someone came around the corner and asked properly… but that didn’t happen.
‘Maybe they are desperate, whatever, and we think, but there is absolutely no intention from our side to do anything.’
Klopp was speaking at his pre-match press conference before Liverpool play Wolves
Shaqiri will miss Liverpool’s trip to Wolves on Thursday due to the minor calf problem that ruled him out of Sunday’s win over Manchester United.
This season, Shaqiri has played 10 times for Liverpool and scored once, in his side’s 5-2 win over Everton in December.
After facing Wolves, Liverpool are away to Shrewsbury in the FA Cup fourth round on Sunday.
