Jorge Masvidal has finally broken his silence after Conor McGregor‘s stunning UFC comeback against Donald Cerrone.

The ‘Notorious’ dismantled his opponent within just 40 seconds in Las Vegas, and has been heavily tipped to take on Masvidal next in a highly-anticipated showdown.

And Masvidal, who has endured a war of words with McGregor over the past few months, posted his verdict of the Irishman’s victory on social media.

He tweeted: ‘Saw what I needed to see #theresurrection.’

McGregor and UFC chief Dana White appear to prefer a rematch with Dagestani fighter Khabib Nurmagomedov, although the Irishman’s triumphant return has paved the way for a series of big fights this year.

The outspoken 31-year-old downed Cerrone with an inch-perfect head kick, which connected square on the American’s jaw, and wrapped up his victory in the first round after a barrage of blows.

After his celebrations inside the Octagon, McGregor was quick to lash out at Masvidal, who had watched his potential future opponent in action from ringside.

Masvidal, who holds the record for the fastest ever UFC knockout, caused a stir after wearing the same Versace dressing gown donned by McGregor before his boxing match with Floyd Mayweather Jr in 2017.

But despite the rivalry between the duo hotting up, White warned McGregor not to pursue a bout with Masvidal last month.

The UFC president believed it would not be wise for the former featherweight and lightweight champion to fight the BMF title holder.

He said: ‘Conor has this idea, too, that if things don’t go his way and he [doesn’t] get the fight [with Khabib], he’ll have had a 170 fight in his pocket again and [is] considering a [Jorge] Masvidal fight.

‘I think everybody knows what I think about it. I think it’s a bad idea.

‘Conor gets p***ed off when I say it’s a bad idea, and he’s like, “You think I can’t beat Masvidal?”

‘I’m not saying you can’t beat Masvidal. Anybody can beat anybody on any given day, but why? Why go after that fight when you could possibly just wait?’
