Jim Harbaugh has had his hands full the last few weeks in filling some vacancies on the Michigan Wolverines football coaching staff with Chris Partridge and now Anthony Campanile moving on to different jobs.

Campanile, the team’s linebackers coach, was surprising seeing as he rebuffed Rutgers, a school in his home state, to presumably return to Michigan. Then, he turned around and wound up with a chance to coach with the Miami Dolphins.

“He was looking at some other opportunities,” Harbaugh said on Thursday night at a high school coaches clinic in Lansing. “He got the opportunity with the Dolphins. He wanted to try it. He wanted to give pro football a shot. He’s a good coach. They got a good one.”

Partridge, who coached the safeties and coordinated the special teams, also departed the program the day after the Citrus Bowl after five years on the job in Ann Arbor.

“He did a great job,” he said. “Another long and trusting friend. Sometimes you grow and do a different opportunity.”

Reports indicated on Thursday that Michigan has added former Penn State and Mississippi State defensive coordinator Bob Shoop to its coaching staff, but Harbaugh would not confirm those reports. He did say that they have filled both open positions and an announcement would be made soon.

Howard speaks on rematch with Iowa, Luka Garza

Michigan basketball is back in action on Friday night at Iowa, a team they beat 103-91 on Dec. 6, but they have a familiar problem to deal with. Iowa big man Luka Garza torched them for 44 points in that game and it was only the beginning of the Wolverines’ struggles in conference play there.

Juwan Howard is on high alert for Friday’s showdown.

“He’s so skilled and so smart,” Howard said on Thursday. “He’s very patient before he gets the ball setting up his post position. His teammates are very patient in finding him no matter if the ball moves over to the other side of the floor. Before the shot clock is over with, it’s always going to find a way to find his hands. He’s the perfect example of ball finds energy because he’s never staying in the same spot.

“What we have to do a better job of is making sure we’re aware that if the ball is on the other side of the floor, don’t feel like you can relax and know at some point he’s going to touch it. … To be honest with you, we’re not going to prevent him from scoring because he’s that good. We just want to make all his catches tough as well as his shots are well-contested and make him have to work for every bucket.”

Friday’s game tips off at 9 p.m. ET from Iowa City.

Michigan fans eager to get an early look at some of the program’s future stars will get their opportunity Saturday. Seven future Wolverines will be participating in the Polynesian Bowl in Hawaii Saturday.

The list includes receiver A.J. Henning, defensive end Braiden McGregor, safety Jordan Morant, linebacker Kalel Mullings, receiver Roman Wilson, center Reece Atteberry and walk-on long-snapper Gregor Tarr.

Other Brews

  • Remember when Odell Beckham Jr. handed out money after LSU won the national championship? Well, that’s the least of the Cleveland Browns receiver’s problems now, after he was reportedly arrested in New Orleans this week.
  • On that note, OBJ was adamant he handed out fake money to players after the game. But LSU quarterback Joe Burrow has come out saying that isn’t true.
