The Michigan Wolverines added to their 2022 football recruiting class last week in the form of defensive back Myles Rowser (Belleville, MI). Rowser already has plenty of ties to the university in that his brother, four-star 2020 signee Andre Seldon, is already on campus on top of his family growing up fans of the program.

He is also related to a former Wolverine, his great uncle John Rowser, who spent time with the Green Bay Packers, Pittsburgh Steelers and Denver Broncos in a 12-year NFL career. Rowser was an NFL champion and was a rookie on the Packers team that beat the Oakland Raiders in Super Bowl II.

Rowser, who also holds offers from Cincinnati, Florida, Florida State, Kentucky, Minnesota, Nebraska, Penn State and Tennessee, has two more years of high school football to get through before it is time for him to play in college, so why the rush to close out his recruitment early? His rationale makes plenty of sense.

“My brother is there now and I’ve been with him through the whole process,” Rowser told Maize n Brew. “They have really treated him well. When I saw an article the other day on my great uncle, I think it was my turning point.

“My dad is a really big fan, too. My mom is also, but she told me that it was my decision to make.”

Having been around with his brother for recruiting visits at Michigan, he has seen plenty of what he needs to see of the program and has gotten much more of a taste for the recruiting trail than a lot of prospects his age. Rowser said that he has spoken the most with head coach Jim Harbaugh, defensive coordinator Don Brown and cornerbacks coach Mike Zordich.

The evaluations will start to come in soon on 2022 prospects, but many project Rowser to be rated fairly high when the rankings are released and believe he has the ability to play multiple positions at the next level.

Michigan has also pitched this to him, as they see him as someone who can contribute at either cornerback or safety.

“Any position is fine with me,” Rowser said. “I’ve played all of them and am comfortable in all of them.”

Rowser looks up to Michigan corners Lavert Hill and Ambry Thomas, both Detroit Martin Luther King guys as he soon will be, as players that he wants to emulate at the next level. In terms of some of the defensive back greats in the history of the NFL, he wants to mold himself after Sean Taylor, Steve Atwater and of course, Charles Woodson.

Rowser is also already working on fellow 2022 in-state players that he would like to bring along with him to Michigan.

“(Oak Park WR) Dayvon Young, (St. Mary’s LB) Jordan Cannon, (Belleville WR) Trevor Jones, (Cass Tech’s) Miles Gilmore, and (Monroe ATH) Tristan Panza,” he said. “(Class of 2022) ballers.”

Rowser said that his brother Seldon, a four-star commit that is already enrolled at Michigan, is enjoying his time so far with the program after enrolling prior to the current term. He said that there are nothing but “positive vibes” coming from within the building right now.

Rowser is one of two commits that Michigan currently has in the class of 2022 with the other being in-state defensive tackle Alex VanSumeren, who also has a brother currently with the program in Ben VanSumeren, a running back. Rowser says that the two have had contact and that he received a direct message of congrats from VanSumeren after he announced his commitment.

Rowser and VanSumeren are not currently ranked by the major recruiting services, but typically that is the case at this time of the year with guys just coming off of their sophomore seasons.
