USC Football to cancel 2021 game against UC Davis

USC was set to face their first FCS opponent in UC Davis to open the 2021 season. That appears...

Steve Prohm rolled out his new lineup for the second straight game. As George Conditt IV got the start over Solomon Young for the second contest in a row.

Uncharacteristically, the Cyclones got out to a great start defensively, but a slow start offensively. George Conditt IV started the game very active on both ends of the floor with four points and two boards. Iowa State headed into the first TV timeout tied 4-4, with Baylor.

Terrance Lewis was the first man of the bench for Steve Prohm’s squad, as the sloppy play continued for both teams. Baylor led 10-8 with 11:24 remaining in the first half.

After Baylor led 14-8–the Cyclones fired back with an 8-1 run led by Zion Griffin’s five points off the bench. ISU led 16-15 with just about six minutes remaining.

The first half continued to be a back and forth barnburner as Iowa State went into halftime trailing 230-25. As they held Baylor to their worst half of field goal shooting this season (34.5%).

Baylor came out of the locker room on fire. The Bears started the second half 3-3, with a pair of quick threes from Davion Mitchell. Iowa State trailed 38-25 with 17:37 left–in what seemed to be a blink of the eye.

Baylor’s offense continued to really open up as they led 53-34 heading into the under 12 media timeout. Iowa State was unable to find a stop to save their life, as Baylor guard Jared Butler began to take over with a game high of 15 points.

The Cyclones scrapped together a five point run to make it 53-39.

Iowa State did all they can to claw back, but would never get closer than 11.

With six minutes remaining George Conditt IV fouled out on a suspicious moving screen call.

Baylor’s patented killer defense would be too much to overcome for the Cyclones. As they were held to a season low 55 points in an 11 point loss.

ISU’s three point shooting struggles continued as they shot 26.1% on the night. Ultimately, they couldn’t knock down enough jump shots to make this game competitive.
