West Virginia defensive back Tykee Smith was named to the Football Writers Association of America’s Freshman All-American Team. Smith played in all 12 games for the Mountaineers, starting the final eight.
Penn State wide receivers coach and passing game coordinator Gerad Parker has been hired as West Virginia’s new offensive coordinator.
Ole Miss linebackers coach Jeff Koonz has been hired as the Mountaineers’ inside linebackers coach and special teams coordinator.
West Virginia freshman guard Miles “Deuce” McBride has collected his second Big 12 Conference Newcomer of the Week award. Deuce provided double figure scoring in both of WVU’s games last week, including a career-high 22 points in the Mountaineers’ win over #22 Texas Tech on Saturday.
The West Virginia men’s basketball team moved up five spots to #12 in this week’s Associated Press Top 25 poll. The Mountaineers won both of their games last week to move to 13-2 overall, with a 2-1 Big 12 record.
West Virginia guards Miles “Deuce” McBride and Brandon Knapper have been clicking while playing together in the Mountaineers’ past two games. The duo has built chemistry in practice that is translating to WVU’s games.

West Virginia Athletics
The West Virginia baseball team is starting 2020 off in the preseason ranking on NCAA.com. The Mountaineers are starting at #15 spot in this ranking.
Redshirt sophomore Noah Adams extended his win streak to 22, as the West Virginia wrestling team lost a 36-3 contest to #4 Virginia Tech on Saturday.
The West Virginia gymnastics team debuts at #24 in the second Road to Nationals Rankings of the 2020 season. The Mountaineers are also ranked #4 in the Southeast Region.
Despite recording its highest season-opening meet score in program history and posting a trio of first-place event finishes on the day, the West Virginia gymnastics team started its 2020 season with loss to #17 Penn State on Saturday.
Jedd Gyorko has agreed to a one-year contract with the Milwaukee Brewers, pending a physical. Gyorko is a University High graduate and former standout for the West Virginia baseball program.

#2 Baylor’s Jared Butler was named Big 12 Men’s Basketball Player of the Week while his teammate Macio Teague and #12 West Virginia’s Miles “Deuce” McBride were named the conference Newcomers of the Week. Butler and Teague led Baylor to back-to-back road victories over ranked opponents.
Baylor forward NaLyssa Smith earned her second Big 12 Women’s Basketball Player of the Week award this season after guiding the #2 Lady Bears to a win over top-ranked Connecticut. Texas Tech’s Alexis Tucker collected her first Freshman of the Week honor after leading the Lady Raiders to their first Big 12 win of the season.
Oklahoma’s Maggie Nichols and Ragan Smith along with Denver’s Alexis Vasquez all repeated as winners of the Big 12 gymnastics weekly awards for week two.
Around the NCAA
Joe Burrow’s historic season ends at #1, as LSU surged past Clemson to win the College Football Playoff national title for the first time. Clemson’s winning streak ended at 29 games in a row.
Gonzaga stayed #1 for the third straight week, and Duke dropped one spot to #3 to make room for #2 Baylor. Undefeated Auburn moved up to #4, with Butler at #5, and Kansas at #6 after its loss.
