Last week, manager Carlo Ancelotti said he was hopeful the 26-year-old would return soon, after two-and-a-half months on the sidelines.

‘Andre Gomes can come back next week and start to train individually here,’ Ancelotti said.

‘It is good news. He is doing well in his recovery.

‘It is going fast, so I hope as soon as possible he can be with us, because he’s a fantastic player.’

Gomes, signed permanently from Barcelona in the summer after impressing on-loan last season, suffered the injury after a tackle from Son Heung-min on November 3 at Goodison Park.

The South Korean was sent off and was in tears as he left the pitch, though his red card was later rescinded on appeal.

Since the injury, Everton have sacked Marco Silva and brought in three-time Champions League winner Ancelotti at the helm.

After an upturn in form last month under caretaker boss Duncan Ferguson and three wins from four Premier League games under Ancelotti, the Toffees are up to 11th in the Premier League table.

Gomes has so far missed a total of 13 matches in all competitions, which include defeats to Leicester City and Liverpool in the Carabao Cup and FA Cup respectively.
