The Broncos could win this football game, like how any team could win any football game. These men are the best in the world at want they do. Each team is composed of the greatest physical specimens our marble has to offer. There are an infinite number of possibilities, an infinite number of realities, and on any Given Sunday, a bad team, or a worse team, could beat the better team when the talent margins are this slim.
All of this being said from the top of the mountains, going down 21-0 against a team that’s 30th in pass offense DVOA, and 30th in points scored per game, is absurd, wretched, and absolutely something that should never happen. Sure, Drew Lock maybe better than Brandon Allen, and he’s definitely better than Joe Flacco, because even someone like me, who has only played quarterback in a backyard, is better than Flacco. Play action was killer. Receivers were schemed wide open. Jeff Heuerman loves playing the Houston Texans. Noah Fant has learned the joys of playing the Houston Texans. The pass rush didn’t exist even though Denver has struggled protecting the quarterback all season.
Here’s the thing. The pass defense has been atrocious all season. They’re 25th in pass defense DVOA, and are awful at stopping the short pass. The pass rush is nonexistent without J.J. Watt, and scratchy is the highest attainable goal. The secondary is bad, and is composed of scrapheap players. Last week was an aberration against a mediocre Patriots’ offense, that has their own passing troubles right now. The Colts and Jaguars had ridiculously stupid game plans. Houston is going to struggle on defense when teams throw the ball.
The Texans won’t say this. They’ll say they have to start faster on offense. They’ll blame the Kareem Jackson scoop and score. They’ll talk about cleaning up the penalties. This isn’t the truth. Houston got beat in every aspect of this game.
Losing like this is important as far as the postseason goes. The Texans are going to have to score more than 27 points in a game if they’re going to push past the Divisional Round for the first time with a roster that is all in on this season. They have to be prepared to do this. This is no different than last season when they were unprepared for it in their Wildcard Round loss to the Colts.
Losing is important as far as the Texans postseason chances even go. Houston is 8-5. The Titans will play shortly. Houston could be tied with the Titans before they head to Nashville next weekend. The division isn’t locked up. The playoffs aren’t either, even if they should get in. The next three weeks are still crucial.
All of these words are for content purposes. I don’t feel this way. I don’t even care! I’m just consciousness in a vat. The Texans beat the Patriots last weekend. That’s all that matters. Kill your ego. Play it again. Damn I love this.
Houston plays the Tennessee Titans next Sunday at 12:00 p.m. The winner will be the AFC South leader.
