Our Bud Elliott and Ingram Smith return to continue their conversation about how Florida State is going about filling its head-coaching vacancy. The guys foreground their chat on the Tallahassee Democrat’s report that a new HC is unlikely to be announced before this weekend.
Of course, that leads, logically, to hiring someone who still has to coach his team in a conference championship game this weekend. And naturally, that puts Memphis’ Mike Norvell as a top candidate. The Seminoles want someone with experience as a head coach, so tapping a coordinator is improbable— but not impossible. But at this point, with a recruiting class left to salvage, the clock is FSU’s enemy.
As to some other big-name possibilities, like Iowa State’s Matt Campbell, Notre Dame’s Brian Kelly, and Penn State’s James Franklin, it looks like you can turn the page.
