One often overlooked aspect of college football game day is the impact weather can have. No, we’re not just talking about how it impacts playing conditions, but also road conditions (this is Iowa, after all, there is bound to be snow in November – but definitely not on 11/23) and perhaps most importantly, tailgating conditions.

Each week we’ll be updating you on the forecast for game day so you can plan your day accordingly.

The Hawkeyes host a spunky Illinois team this Saturday. After winning just four games last season and one of the losses being 63-0 to Iowa, this year the Fighting Illini are already bowl eligible and fighting with Iowa for third place in the Big Ten West.

The Forecast

The forecast is about as good as it could be for a late November day, dry and slightly cool. Temperatures will be in the 30s in the morning and reaching the 40s during the game. The wind may pickup once the sun comes out so there probably won’t be any shirtless sightings.

Traffic/Tailgating Conditions

There shouldn’t be any road condition issues as it should by dry Friday night and Saturday. Some tailgating spots may be limited due to ground conditions so be prepared to potentially spend a little more time looking for a spot. As always when tailgating, dress warmly, hydrate properly and have some delicious food.

Game Time

By game time at 11:00 a.m., the sun will have made it’s appearance and should remain sunny the rest of the game which will certainly help. Temperatures will get into the mid 40s by the end of the game. For those we are worried about humidity, not an issue once the game begins.

Many are worried that this is a “trap” game as Iowa looks ahead to their matchup in Lincoln next Friday but as it’s Senior Day, Iowa will not be overlooking a fairly competent Illinois team.

It’s the last game at Kinnick this season. Enjoy the day and support the players who will be playing at home for the last time extra loud.

Go Hawks!
