The Oklahoma City Thunder point guard was among a slew of athletes who stripped down for cameras for ESPN’s annual September Body Issue that hit newsstands last Wednesday.
Paul, 34, reflected on how committing to a plant-based diet improved his health and physique and showed off his incredibly toned frame while posing naked on the court.
But in an interview with DailyMailTV, the nine-time NBA All-Star revealed he was reluctant to take part in the ‘nerve-racking’ shoot and was actually forced into it by his wife.

Support: Speaking at the premiere of documentary The Game Changers last Tuesday, Paul, 34 admitted he was hesitant to pose nude but was forced into it by his wife Jada (pictured)
The ball player attended the premiere of The Game Changers last Tuesday alongside wife Jada Crawley, who smirked when he was asked about the risque photos.
‘You know why she’s smiling? It’s because it was actually her idea,’ Paul said.
‘When I was brought the opportunity to do it, I was like, “Man, no. I’m not doing that.” And she was like, “No, you are. You’re gonna do it”.’
Looking back, Paul acknowledged it was an ‘eye-opening’ experience that took him out of his comfort zone – having to play ball in nothing but his birthday suit.
‘It definitely put me in a situation that I’ve never been in. I’m so excited that I did it because I mean, it’s one life,’ he added.
‘It was nerve-wracking doing the shoot.
‘You’re absolutely naked. I have played a lot of basketball in my life but that was the first time I hooped without no clothes on,’ he joked.
As for his wife of seven years, she said it was ‘fun’ to watch her husband transform his body and get into shape.
Paul, originally from North Carolina, said switching to a vegan diet after years of enjoying ‘southern home cooked food and fried chicken’ has drastically changed his life.
The change in lifestyle was so beneficial he said he even wanted to keep his new regimen to himself.
‘I say all the time. In discovering this gem I almost didn’t want to tell anyone else about it. It truly is a game changer.’

In the issue, Paul, here with teammate James Harden, reflected on how committing to a plant-based diet improved his health and physique and showed off his incredibly toned frame while posing naked on the court
Paul raised some eyebrows last week after he uploaded the revealing shots on his Instagram, showing off the results of his new diet.
‘Man listen! It seems counter-intuitive to think you would start feeling better in your body as you get older, but that’s EXACTLY the path I’m on!! 34, recently turned plant-based, and feeling pretty damn good! Stay disciplined and take care of yourselves, it all starts here,’ he said in a caption.
The photos drew positive feedback from fans as well as some jokes from fellow NBA players.
‘I’m glad u feelin good youngsta, but put some damn cloths (sic) on,’ former Celtics player Chauncey Billups quipped.
‘How I’m supposed to eat my jello after seeing this?’ Nets player Deandre Jordan added.
Paul walked the red carpet for the premiere of documentary The Game Changers, which explores the rise of plant-based eating among athletes and the world of professional sports.
The new film, executive produced by Arnold Schwarzenegger, Oscar-winning pal James Cameron, and action icon Jackie Chan, features some of the strongest, fastest and toughest athletes on the planet – and it’s backed by them too – with additional EPs including Formula One champion Lewis Hamilton and top-ranked tennis player Novak Djokovic.
The documentary, which will be released September 16, follows the story of James Wilks, elite Special Forces trainer and winner of The Ultimate Fighter, as he travels the world on a quest for the truth about meat, protein, and strength

Directed by Oscar-winner Louie Psihoyos, it follows the story of James Wilks, elite Special Forces trainer and winner of The Ultimate Fighter, as he travels the world on a quest for the truth about meat, protein, and strength.
Showcasing elite athletes, special ops soldiers, and visionary scientists. Wilks’ journey exposes outdated myths about food that not only affect human performance, but the health of the entire global population.
Psihoyos said he feels the movie will have an impact on meat lovers.
‘We have the data to disprove that animal products are good for you. When you eat animal products constantly your body is in a constant state of inflammation. Your boy is always trying to keep up and wants to heal itself up,’ he said.
In fact, Psihoyos revealed that in the film he changed the lives of a squad of 30 firefighters who took part in an experiment.
He says that while they ‘are some of the most unhealthy people on the planet, they might looked physically fit but they are eating the same crappy animal product food.’
‘We gave them a Whole Foods plant based diet for one week. The average weight loss was six pounds, average cholesterol drop was 22 points and all their blood pressure went down as well.
The film will be released on September 16, 2019. For more information see https://gamechangersmovie.com.
