Basketball legend Andrew Gaze suffers blunder after spotting Brazilian fan dancing in the crowd

Hilarious moment basketball legend Andrew Gaze has a commentary breakdown after spotting a scantily-dressed Brazilian fan in the crowd

  • Ex-player Andrew Gaze was a commentator at the FIBA Basketball World Cup
  • He was lost for words when a Brazilian woman in a tank top started dancing
  • One commentator said: ‘Brazil have support in this arena. Even if she didn’t.’
  • Some thing the comments were lighthearted while others say they’re sexist

A veteran Aussie basketball commentator was left speechless during a game after spotting a glamorous Brazilian fan cheering in the crowd.

Former NBA star Andrew Gaze was part of the commentary team as USA took on Brazil at the FIBA Basketball World Cup in China on Monday night.

He suffered a minor misstep during the game when the camera crew honed in on a Brazilian woman in a yellow tank top dancing in the crowd.

‘Brazil may be getting worked but they are undefeated when it comes to their fans,’ one person wrote on Twitter

The woman’s dance moves were broadcast on screens across the stadium, resulting in cheers from the crowd and silence from Gaze.

At one point, the woman seemed to notice that she was being filmed and laughed before taking her seat again.

Gaze eventually composed himself and continued reporting.

‘And… the… support they’re getting from their fans, a whole bunch of them coming all the way to China to see this one, and you need that,’ he said, with two long and awkward pauses in between to gather his thoughts.

‘You need to generate that emotion and passion in the fans as well.’

His English co-commentator joined in on the discussion, joking: ‘Brazil have a lot of support here in this arena. Even if she didn’t.’

USA managed to win the match with a comfortable 16 point lead, securing their position in the 2020 Olympic games in Tokyo.

Most people saw the light side to the blunder.

‘Brazil may be getting worked but they are undefeated when it comes to their fans,’ one person wrote on Twitter.

Others weren’t as impressed. One man went so far as to describe it as a ‘sexist comment to make’.

‘What a creepy, weird comment to make,’ another woman added.
