The Kentucky Wildcats will have one of the most explosive playmakers in the country this season in the form of wide receiver Lynn Bowden.

Bowden is as dynamic as they come, and he’s poised for a huge season. Whether it be at wide-out, running back, quarterback, or kick/punt returner, Bowden has the ability to score every single time he touches the ball. And he clearly does so in a variety of different ways.

  • Position: Wide Receiver
  • Class: Junior
  • Measurements: 6-1, 199 lbs.
  • Hometown: Youngstown, Ohio
  • School: Warren Harding
  • Recruit Rankings: No. 110 nationally, No. 4 ATH via 247Sports Composite Rankings

You cannot talk about Kentucky’s offense without mentioning Bowden. The former four-star recruit plays all over the field and has even the best SEC defenses shaking in their boots.

The shifty wide-out comes from the same hometown as both head coach Mark Stoops and associate head coach Vince Marrow. With offers from the Michigan Wolverines, Michigan State Spartans, Penn State Nittany Lions, and Tennessee Volunteers, Bowden was a massive get on the recruiting trail for Marrow.

Despite playing in all 13 games as a freshman in 2017, Bowden left fans and coaches alike wanting more. His athleticism and explosiveness were evident, but the results just weren’t there. He finished with 17 receptions for 210 yards, completed 3-of-4 pass attempts for 92 yards, and ran nine times for 25 yards.

However, Bowden was making a position change, as he played quarterback in high school. And he flashed his on-field brilliance multiple times with a career-high 192 all-purpose yards in a win over the Vanderbilt Commodores, which included a 93-yard kickoff return (UK’s longest since 2009); and he was also named SEC Freshman of the Week (Oct. 9) after leading UK with 128 all-purpose yards in the Wildcats’ 40-34 win over the Missouri Tigers.

Unsurprisingly, expectations were high for his sophomore campaign. And he didn’t disappoint. Bowden was absolutely electric in 2019, playing a crucial part in the program’s first 10-win season in over 40 years.

In 2018, Bowden led the team in receptions (67), receiving yards (745), and touchdown catches (5). His 67 catches broke the school record for most by a sophomore in school history. He also returned two punts for touchdowns. This helped Bowden gain a plethora of mid-season and postseason honors.

Bowden is likely to be the centerpiece of the offense in 2019. While AJ Rose and Kavosiey Smoke man the backfield, Bowden is the only proven receiver on the team. Meanwhile, Terry Wilson is expected to have a longer leash and improve tremendously from his rookie season.

This will probably be Bowden’s last season in Lexington, and a fun one at that, so enjoy him while you can, BBN.
