Both players were recovering from knee injuries, but are now cleared to practice with the team or the first time this offseason. There will be two corresponding releases from the 90-man roster, but we don’t know who those two might be just yet.
Obviously this is great news for the Titans as they continue to get ready for Week 1 against the Cleveland Browns. Smith’s return gives the offense yet another matchup problem to throw at opposing defenses. It will be interesting if we see him at all in preseason action.
Succop’s return should calm some fears about the kicking situation. He’s been among the most reliable kickers in the NFL over the past five years, hitting 86.7% of his field goal attempts and 94.5% of his extra point attempts while wearing two tone blue.
The Titans now have just one player remaining on PUP: first round pick Jeffery Simmons. The big defensive tackle is expected to start the season on regular season PUP as he recovers from an ACL tear suffered in February.
