The outlook for the rest of this Cincinnati Reds season has turned rather dour.

The failure to capitalize on an August schedule with ample opportunity has left a taste in our collective mouths that’s quite sour.

In fact, it’s hard to imagine the nearly non-existent playoff hopes rising again, even if you add flour.

Tonight, the Reds welcome the San Diego Padres to town, and in order to maybe, maybe begin to begin to rip off an incredible run of victories, Cincinnati will turn to starter Trevor Bauer.

This Padres series, for what its worth, is buttressed by series against the miserable Miami Marlins and fading Pittsburgh Pirates, too, giving a sustained chance for the Reds’ Wild Card dreams to maybe, maybe flower.

Meanwhile, the Padres will hope that they, too, can get back into the race, and to begin their series in GABP they’ll turn to starter Eric Lauer.

He, you’ll remember, is a lefty, meaning we’ll see a Reds lineup stacked with righties to oppose him, the analytics of which suggesting that gives the offense the best chance of smacking dingers off the stacks of power.

The weather forecast is for a hot one at GABP, with a high of 94 degrees and nary a chance of a shower.

If you’re going to this one, just know that first pitch is scheduled for 10 minutes after the 7 o’clock hour.
