The Jacksonville Jaguars are finished with two weeks of their preseason schedule. Week 3 is traditionally when starters get a lion’s share of the reps and Week 4 features the bottom of the roster, so we’ve seen almost all we’re going to see of the 53-man roster.
Who makes this roster and who doesn’t? Here are my predictions for who I think will be on the 53-man roster come Week 1 against the Kansas City Chiefs.
QB: Nick Foles, Gardner Minshew, Alex McGough (3)
RB: Leonard Fournette, Ryquell Armstead, Alfred Blue, Thomas Rawls (4)
TE: Geoff Swaim, Josh Oliver, Ben Koyack, James O’Shaughnessy (4)
WR: Marqise Lee, Dede Westbrook, DJ Chark, Terrelle Pryor, Chris Conley, Keelan Cole (6)
OL: Cam Robinson, Andrew Norwell, Brandon Linder, A.J. Cann, Jawaan Taylor, Will Richardson, Tyler Shatley, Josh Wells, Cedric Ogbuehi (9)
EDGE: Yannick Ngakoue, Josh Allen (2)
DE: Calais Campbell, Dawuane Smoot, Lerentee McCray (3)
DT: Marcell Dareus, Taven Bryan, Abry Jones, Dontavius Russell, Datone Jones (5)
LB: Myles Jack, Quincy Williams, Joe Giles-Harris, Leon Jacobs, Najee Goode (5)
CB: Jalen Ramsey, A.J. Bouye, D.J. Hayden, Tre Herndon, Breon Borders (5)
FS: Jarrod Wilson, Cody Davis (2)
SS: Ronnie Harrison, C.J. Reavis (2)
Alex McGough was left off the last one of these, but I think the Jaguars like his developmental ceiling and don’t want to risk him getting picked up by another team if they try to practice squad him.
Four tight ends may sound like a lot, but it’s a beat up position group and they’ll need all the help they can get.
The wide receivers are what they are. If Lee wasn’t off PUP, I think a guy like Tre McBride would be the easy choice as their No. 6 guy.
The offensive line group is a bit banged up. If there was a bubble guy going into last week’s game against the Philadelphia Eagles, it was Leonard Wester — but he was disastrous. Outside of an injury, I think he’s on the outside looking in.
Datone Jones is such a solid player and a good dude. He was someone who really stood out last week and I think another good game this week against the Miami Dolphins solidifies his spot on this defensive line.
Jake Ryan is likely starting the season on PUP and that means the linebackers group is going to be a bit shaky. Joe Giles-Harris stood out last week with a team high four tackles. Ramik Wilson hasn’t seen the field this preseason and D.J. Alexander has dipped from Week 1 to Week 2. I think Giles-Harris makes it.
Quenton Meeks was on the active roster for eight games last year and even started in London against the Philadelphia Eagles, but Tre Herndon and Breon Borders are outplaying him so far this preseason.
