The Kentucky Wildcats have been fortunate over the last few years to have an excellent tight end.

CJ Conrad was a fan favorite for years, but people constantly questioned why he wasn’t used more in the passing game. He was a solid run-blocker, sure, but it was so fun to imagine him as a young Gronk as he cut across the middle.

As good as Conrad was, however, Vince Marrow has some lofty expectations for the Cats’ new starting tight end.

The 6-6, 263-pound junior has seen a lot of action in his time at Kentucky, but has been limited in the passing game. In his career, Rigg has played in 28 games but only tallied seven receptions for 85 yards.

That’s mainly due to the fact that Conrad was running with the first team, but it led many to assume the Springboro, Ohio, native was simply a really good blocker. And that’s it.

However, while he is good in the trenches, that’s not the only part of his game that stands out.

Marrow shared a similar sentiment back in the spring.

“I’m going to be honest with you, Justin is better than C.J. Conrad. He’s more of what you look for in an all-around NFL tight end: 6-6, 260, long wingspan, soft hands, he can block at the point of attack. Justin Rigg is really, really — we’re going to do some good things with him.”

It caught a lot of people off guard at the time, and Rigg has apparently done enough to this point to continue to earn high praise from the Big Dog.

Marrow expects Rigg to be a nightmare matchup for opposing defenses, and that’s music to Cats’ fans ears.
