Eddie Gran breaks down offense, o-line and more

With fall classes set to begin next week, UK will be wrapping up training camp soon with the new season just over two weeks away.

On Tuesday, offensive coordinator Eddie Gran met with the media to discuss the state of his offense, which hopes to make a major jump after being a liability at times during the 2018 campaign.

Gran actually spoke about UK’s first scrimmage, which took place this past Saturday. He hopes to see the ground game churn out more yards, but he was impressed with what quarterback Terry Wilson was able to do.

“We had a long run, but you take that away and we were still only 4.8 yards per carry,” said Gran. “We need to be better at that. What we did do well is we were explosive and that was good.

“Terry was 16/20 (passing). I thought he managed the game really well, but out of those four (incompletions), he had two where he got himself in a bad situation instead of checking the ball down. Don’t take a sack. If we can eliminate those, he would’ve been pretty stellar in his first scrimmage out.”

Hearing that Wilson was a few plays from being “stellar” is great to hear as the redshirt junior looks to become a true dual-threat quarterback who can win games on the ground and through the air.

Gran has also been impressed with the play and depth of the offensive line, which could be UK’s biggest strength in 2019.

“I think we have eight right now that are playing winning football,” he said. “We’ve got a couple of others that we feel like by week five or six, they got to jump in that role. But it’s been pretty cohesive.”

Here is a recap of everything Gran and running backs Kavosiey Smoke and A.J. Rose had to say today, courtesy of UK Athletics.
