Game threads 120 & 121 Aug 13, 2019, 3:40 CDT, Astros vs White Sox (Doubleheader)

Yesterday’s scheduled game between the Houston Astros and Chicago White Sox has been rescheduled due to rain to be part of a traditional doubleheader today.

The White Sox attempted to close the roof to Guaranteed Rate Field, until they realized their stadium was designed by the architects who built restaurants in “Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs.”

With no roof, the White Sox have spent the last day trying to determine exactly what the switch they have been flipping controls. They are sure they have turned something on or off, but can’t figure out which and for what.

In the first game, Zack Greinke takes the mound for his second start with the Astros, and faces off against Dylan Cease of the White Sox.

The second game will start 30 to 40 minutes after the first game (but not sooner than 7:10 pm CDT). Gerrit Cole looks to add to league leading strikeout total, matches up against Iván Nova.

While a lot is being made of the ease of opponents of the rest of the Astros’ schedule, Sunday’s loss should serve as a reminder that even the worse MLB teams are still MLB teams and no game is a given. The Astros played a poor White Sox team in Chicago in August two years ago, and were swept so hard, Luhnow felt the need to trade for the Sox’ Tyler Clippard immediately after.

Let’s hope that history doesn’t repeat itself. But then again, 2017 turned out pretty well for the ‘Stros, so maybe that wouldn’t be so bad.

Go ‘Stros.

Lineups for the first game:

Myles Straw has been recalled from AAA to serve as the 26th man for the doubleheader.
