Red Sox Minor Lines: Bobby Dalbec’s first Triple-A homer

Pawtucket L 6-7

Tzu-Wei Lin, CF: 2-5, 1 R

Marco Hernandez, 2B: 1-5, 1 2B, 1 R, 2 K

Chris Owings, 3B: 0-3, 1 BB, 1 RBI, 2 K

Rusney Castillo, RF: 2-4, 1 2B, 1 HR, 2 R, 2 RBI, 1 K

Bobby Dalbec, 1B: 3-4, 1 2B, 1 HR, 2 R, 2 RBI, 1 K

Josh Ockimey, DH: 1-4, 2 K

Tanner Houck: 2.1 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 2 BB, 5 K (47 pitches)

Travis Lakins: 2 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 3 K (42 pitches)

This was a tough game for the Paw Sox, who scored four in the eighth but couldn’t quite complete their big comeback after trailing 7-1 at one point in the evening. The offense came to play in this game, with Dalbec being among them. He’s had a strong start to his Triple-A career, and Friday saw his first homer above Double-A. First of many, we hope. He now has a .982 OPS in his first six games with Pawtucket.

Portland W 5-4

Jarren Duran, CF: 0-5, 2 K, 1 SB

Marcus Wilson, RF: 3-4, 2 2B, 1 HR, 1 BB, 3 R, 1 RBI, 1 K

C.J. Chatham, SS: 1-5, 2 K, 1 SB

Joey Curletta, 1B: 2-3, 1 2B, 1 BB, 1 RBI, 1 K

Luke Tendler, LF: 2-4, 1 RBI, 1 K

Brett Netzer, 2B: 3-4, 1 2B, 1 R, 1 RBI

Denyi Reyes: 6 IP, 8 H, 4 R, 2 BB, 3 K (93 piches)

Eduard Bazardo: 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K (29 pitches)

Wilson kind of gets lost in the shuffle a bit in the middle tier of this farm system, particularly after he struggled so mightily upon joining the organization in the Blake Swihart trade. He was eventually demoted to Salem where he caught fire, only to get another chance in Portland. He’s looked outstanding in this latest stint and Friday was among his best games of the year. The ceiling is not that of a first division starter according to most, but there is certainly a potential major-league contributor if he continues to progress well. On the other end, it wasn’t a dominant start for Reyes, who had allowed six earned runs over his previous six starts, but this was his 14th straight start lasting at least six innings.

Salem L 4-6

Ryan Fitzgerald, SS: 1-4, 1 HR, 1 R, 1 RBI, 1 K, 1 E

Pedro Castellanos, RF: 0-3, 1 BB

Devlin Granberg, 1B: 2-4, 1 2B, 1 R, 1 CS

Zach Schellenger: 0.2 IP, 2 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 1 BB, 2 K (20 pitches)

After his previous outing I had said that Schellenger may have been turning a corner and had looked better of late. Oops. This was a dreadful night for the righty and he took the loss. On a more positive note, Fitzgerald smacked a home run. The shortstop has cooled off considerably after his hot start to the year, but there’s still some magic left in that bat.

Greenville L 7-11

Tyler Esplin, RF: 2-3, 1 2B, 2 BB, 1 R

Triston Casas, 1B: 2-3, 1 3B, 2 BB, 1 R, 4 RBI, 1 K, 1 SB

Kole Cottam, DH: 0-4, 1 BB, 1 R, 3 K

Brandon Howlett, 3B: 1-5, 1 2B, 2 K

Casas hadn’t quite been the same dominant force of late, but don’t be surprised if this game starts a hot streak. The top prospect in the organization showed a bit of everything in this one, smacking a triple, using his legs for that and a stolen base and also drawing a couple walks. He’s pretty good! Meanwhile, Esplin is starting to turn it on a bit with multi-hit games in three of his last four starts.

Lowell L 2-5

Gilberto Jimenez, CF: 3-4, 1 3B, 1 R, 1 SB

Cameron Cannon, 2B: 0-4, 1 K

Nick Decker, RF: 0-3, 1 BB

Marino Campana, LF: 1-4, 1 R, 1 RBI, 2 K

Ryan Zeferjahn: 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 5 K (30 pitches)

Robbie Baker: 4 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 7 K (48 pitches)

This was a tough game but there were a few positives. Jimenez continues to roll at the plate this year and is up to an .829 OPS. Campana has legitimate power and his homer on Friday was, by all accounts, an absolute moonshot. Finally, Zeferjahn had a nice start as he continues to acclimate himself to pro ball.

GCL G1 L 2-5

Dominic D’Alessandro, 1B: 2-4, 2 K

Matthew Lugo, SS: 0-3

GCL G2 SUSP

DSL 1 W 18-2

Brainer Bonaci, SS: 3-5, 1 2B, 3 R, 1 RBI, 1 K

Wilker Vargas, 3B: 2-3, 2 R, 1 RBI

Eduardo Vaughan, RF: 2-6, 2 R, 1 RBI, 1 K

Darel Belen, LF: 2-5, 3 R, 1 RBI, 1 K

Eduardo Lopez, DH: 2-4, 1 3B, 1 R, 3 RBI, 1 K

Nelfy Abreu, CF: 4-6, 1 3B, 2 R, 4 RBI

Yorberto Mejicano, C: 2-2, 1 RBI

DSL 2 W 11-6

Moises Barajas, CF: 2-4, 1 2B, 1 BB, 2 RBI, 1 K

Bryan Gonzalez, RF: 0-1, 2 BB, 2 R

Luis Mota, 2B/3B: 3-4, 1 BB, 3 R, 2 RBI

Gregori Custodio, 1B: 2-4, 1 2B, 1 BB, 1 R, 4 RBI
