Boston College graduate and former US National Team star Alejandro Bedoya set the sports world on fire Sunday with a sensational goal for the first place Philadelphia Union of Major League Soccer.
The goal really made a statement down in Washington in the Union’s game against DC United.

Look at that goal. Just a tremendous, assertive tally. Have you ever seen a more important goal scored in the history of MLS? Nay, I say to you, you have not. What a boss. Bedoya’s screamer was the third of the season for the midfielder, and the statement strike earned him league Player of the Week honors.
The goal, scored in just the third minute, really made it clear almost from the opening whistle that Bedoya was playing angry. Any complacency in the Union in such an important moment in the Union’s history could be disastrous — but Bedoya made sure that there would be no such indifference if he had anything to say about it.
Congratulations to Bedoya on being named player of the week! Hopefully those involved with the Union use Bedoya’s crucial strike as a way to ride some momentum for something positive going forward.
