Pawtucket L 2-7

Gorkys Hernández, CF: 2-3, 1 RBI

Tzu-Wei Lin, SS: 1-4, 1 RBI, 1 K

Chris Owings, LF: 1-4, 1 K

Chad De La Guerra, 2B: 0-3, 1 BB

Josh Ockimey, 1B: 1-3, 1 R

Cole Sturgeon, RF: 2-3, 1 R

Trevor Kelley: 1.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K (18 pitches)

There’s not much to say here as the PawSox blew a tied game in the eighth and ended up losing by a five-spot. If you want a positive, Sturgeon has been providing that of late. The outfielder, who profiles as a backup at best and will turn 28 in Triple-A, has multiple hits in five of his last six games and has 18 total bases in that span.

Portland W 7-6

Jarren Duran, CF: 2-5, 2 R, 1 K, 2 SB

C.J. Chatham, SS: 2-4, 1 BB, 2 R, 1 RBI, 1 SB

Bobby Dalbec, DH: 1-5, 3 K

Joey Curletta, 1B: 1-4, 1 BB, 1 R, 3 K, 1 SB

Marcus Wilson, RF: 3-5, 1 2B, 1 HR, 1 R, 5 RBI, 2 K, 1 E

Konner Wade: 6 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 3 K (94 pitches)

Well there’s some excitement. The Sea Dogs were trailing 6-3 heading into the ninth but the lineup was up for a rally and scored four in the top half of the ninth to take the lead and eventually seal the victory. Wilson had the big swing as he continues to look so much better in this stint at Double-A. The outfielder hit a three-run homer with two outs in the ninth to put Portland ahead. Duran, meanwhile, upped his streak to twelve.

Salem W 6-3

Garrett Benge, 3B: 2-3, 1 HR, 1 BB, 2 R, 1 RBI

Ryan Fitzgerald, SS: 0-3, 1 RBI, 1 K

Pedro Castellanos, 1B: 0-3, 1 BB, 1 R

Keith Curcio, CF: 3-4, 1 2B, 1 R

Edgar Corcino, RF: 1-2, 2 BB, 1 R, 1 RBI, 1 K

Victor Acosta, LF: 2-4, 3 RBI

Zach Schellenger: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K (10 pitches)

This was a big game for Benge, the on-base machine who had been struggling over the last couple of weeks. Power is not really a huge part of his game, but it’s always nice to the see the third baseman hit one our here and there. On the mound, Schellenger is looking much better of late with just one walk over his last six outings.

Greenville G1 L 5-8

Brandon Howlett, 3B: 0-2, 3 BB, 1 RBI, 2 K

Triston Casas, 1B: 1-5, 2 K

Jordan Wren, DH: 2-5, 1 R

Tyler Esplin, RF: 1-4, 1 R, 2 K

Tyler Dearden, LF: 1-4, 1 3B, 2 R, 2 RBI, 1 K

Alex Scherff: 4 IP, 5 H, 4 R, 1 BB, 5 K (79 pitches)

Yoan Aybar: 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K (22 pitches)

This year has seen a lot of prospects — Bryan Mata, Jarren Duran, Thad Ward, among others — see their status rise as the season has gone on. Some of that growth has overshadowed some stagnation from other prospects. That group includes Scherff, who many had as a potential breakout this season. He’s never been able to get it going in 2019 and he’s up to a 5.16 ERA on the year. He was just a high school draft pick two years ago, but that can lead many to forget that he’s 21 and will turn 22 before next season starts.

Greenville G2 CANC

Lowell W 11-2

Alex Erro, 3B: 3-5, 2 R, 2 RBI, 1 K, 1 SB

Cameron Cannon, DH: 0-4, 1 R, 2 K

Stephen Scott, LF/RF: 1-4, 1 BB, 2 R, 1 RBI, 1 K

Joe Davis, 1B: 2-5, 1 2B, 2 R, 2 RBI, 1 K

Marino Campana, RF/CF: 2-4, 2 2B, 1 BB, 1 R, 2 RBI, 1 K

Antoni Flores, SS: 2-4, 1 RBI

Chris Murphy: 4 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 4 K (59 pitches)

Among all the big names on the Spinners lineup, it can be easy to overlook some lesser names who are having strong seasons. That includes Davis, a first baseman selected in the 19th round of this year’s draft. We’re only talking about 18 games and it’s always hard to judge college bats at this level, but he’s hitting .306/.375/.484 to start his pro career. Murphy, meanwhile, was the team’s sixth round pick this year and has a 1.29 ERA with 17 strikeouts and three walks in his first 14 innings.

GCL L 1-2 (F/10)

Danny Diaz, 3B: 1-4, 1 RBI, 2 K

Matthew Lugo, SS: 1-2, 1 BB

Aaron Perry: 3 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 2 K

Devon Roedahl: 2.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 5 K

This was a tough game down on the complex, but it’s worth talking positively about Perry. The big righty was drafted as an overslot high school pitcher back in 2017, but injuries prevented him from pitching until this summer. It’s always hard to know how a pitcher will bounce back from that, but Perry is looking solid with a 1.10 ERA over his first 16 13 innings. The bad news is that control has been a big issue as he’s issued 14 walks already with multiple free passes in all six outings. Rust is to be expected after his long layoff, though.

DSL 1 L 0-5

Eduardo Lopez, CF: 0-4

Darel Belen, RF: 2-4

Andy Pena, C: 2-3, 1 K

DSL 2 W 1-0

Bryan Gonzalez, DH: 2-4

Giancarlos Santana, CF: 2-3, 1 BB, 1 R

Angeudis Santos, SS: 2-4, 1 RBI, 1 K

Railin Perez: 5 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 6 K
