Keston Hiura almost definitely won’t win this year’s NL Rookie of the Year award, but he’s at least starting to earn some national attention, even though he’s only played in 37 games.

Hiura was named the National League’s Player of the Week today:

Hiura is in the midst of an 11-game hit streak, which he continued on Sunday with a double in his first at-bat and a triple in the 8th inning that sparked the Brewers’ late-inning outburst, leading the team to a big four-game series win in Arizona.

He’s hit .331/.387/.613 with 9 home runs, 9 doubles and 2 triples for a 1.000 OPS in his first 142 big league at-bats, and that .517/.548/.966 line in the past week has potentially helped salvage the Brewers’ season with a pair of series wins over playoff contenders in Atlanta and Arizona.

He won’t stay this hot forever, but it’s hard to argue it’s come at a pivotal time for the Brewers.
