Angels visit Dodger Stadium for Freeway Series

The Dodgers and Angels meet up for the Freeway Series. This time around, it’s at Dodger Stadium in a two-game set. The Angels swept the Dodgers the last time the two faced off in Anaheim.

Both teams are 7-3 in their last 10 games. The boys in blue are coming off of a 3-game sweep of the Marlins and the Angels are fresh off of a series win against the Mariners.

Home is where the Dodgers do the most damage, with a 40-12 record, which equates to a .769 winning percentage. The Angels perform nearly the same on the road as at home, with just about .500 records for both scenarios.

Game one: Kenta Maeda (7-6, 3.71 ERA) vs. Félix Peña (7-3, 4.92 ERA)

Tuesday, July 23 – 7:10 p.m. PDT // TV: SportsNet LA

Kenta Maeda will take the mound for the series opener. His last full start came on July 12 against the Red Sox where he pitched 5 23 innings. He allowed three earned runs from four hits and a walk while striking out seven batters. His most recent start was cut short after a very long rain delay in Philadelphia, he tossed two scoreless innings, allowing only two baserunners aboard via walks. In his last outing against the Angels, Maeda allowed five runs (three earned) in 4 13 innings. He gave up home runs to Shohei Ohtani and Justin Bour.

Maeda’s opponent on Tuesday is Félix Peña, who is coming off of a not-so-hot outing. He earned his third loss of the season against the Astros where he allowed eight earned runs in 4 23 innings. This, however, is after one of his better starts of the year. He pitched seven innings in the combined no-hitter against the Mariners.

Peña earned a win against the Dodgers earlier this season. He threw 3 23 innings and allowed two earned runs from six hits. The two runs were scored via a Max Muncy solo home run.

Game two: Ross Stripling (4-3, 3.64 ERA) vs. Jaime Barria (3-3, 7.36 ERA)

Wednesday, July 24 – 7:10 p.m. PDT // TV: SportsNet LA

Ross Stripling will make his 12th start of the season against the Angels. In his five starts since returning to the rotation, he has a 1-1 record and 4.91 ERA. His last outing came against the Phillies. He pitched five innings in the no-decision, allowing three runs (two earned) from five hits.

Up against Stripling is Jaime Barria. Barria, like Peña is coming off of a rough appearance. He tossed 3 23 innings against the Mariners and allowed ten runs from nine hits and four walks. He is frequently sent up and down from Triple-A, so this outing may be the next indication of where he lands for the week.
