Pawtucket L 5-7

Gorkys Hernández, CF: 1-4, 1 HR, 1 R, 1 RBI, 1 K

Chris Owings, LF: 2-4, 1 HR, 1 R, 2 RBI, 1 K, 1 CS

Mitch Moreland, 1B: 0-3

Josh Ockimey, 1B: 0-0, 1 BB

Rusney Castillo, RF: 0-4

Tzu-Wei Lin, SS: 0-3, 1 BB, 1 R, 2 K

Kyle Hart: 5 IP, 5 H, 6 R, 3 BB, 2 K (83 pitches)

Hector Velázquez: 2 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 0 K (25 pitches)

Ryan Brasier: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K (14 pitches)

Saturday was a major-league kind of day in Pawtucket, though it did end in a loss. They got home runs from Chris Owings and Gorkys Hernández, who both have spent fairly significant chunks of time in the majors. Mitch Moreland made another rehab appearance and both Velázquez and Brasier appeared out of the bullpen. For those most part, those latter three had forgettable days though Brasier’s inning of work was good as he tries to get back on track and back in the majors.

Portland W 4-2

C.J. Chatham, 2B: 1-5, 2 K

Bobby Dalbec, 3B: 1-5, 1 RBI, 1 E

Joey Curletta, DH: 0-2, 2 BB, 1 K

Marcus Wilson, LF: 2-4, 1 2B, 1 R

Jarren Duran, PR: 1 SB

Daniel McGrath: 6 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 5 K (84 pitches)

Wilson continues to look more and more comfortable now that he’s back in Double-A. After struggling so mightily after first coming over in the Blake Swihart trade, he has hits in each of his last four games including two doubles and two homers. Wilson’s ceiling is not huge, but there’s certainly a potential big leaguer there.

Salem W 5-4

Garrett Benge, DH: 1-5, 2 K

Ryan Fitzgerald, SS: 1-4, 1 2B, 1 BB, 1 R, 2 RBI

Victor Acosta, LF: 2-4, 1 BB, 1 R

Pedro Castellanos, 1B: 1-4, 3 K

Zach Schellenger: 2 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 0 BB, 1 K (30 pitches)

Salem has been winning a lot of ballgames of late, and to be honest as I look at this roster and these box scores I’m not sure how they’re doing it. In this game, it was all about the late-game comeback as they scored three in the eighth and two in the ninth to secure the victory. Fitzgerald, the best player on the roster who’s been here all year, clinched it with a two-run double with two outs in the ninth.

Greenville L 3-6

Brandon Howlett, 3B: 1-4, 1 HR, 1 BB, 1 R, 1 RBI, 2 K

Triston Casas, DH: 0-4, 1 BB, 1 R, 1 K

Tyler Esplin, RF: 0-3, 3 K

Tyler Dearden, LF: 1-2, 2 BB

Grant Williams, SS: 2-4

Chase Shugart: 5 IP, 6 H, 5 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 6 K (83 pitches)

This was an ugly game for Greenville with extremely sloppy defense, as one could probably surmise from seeing all five runs allowed by Shugart being unearned. In total the Drive made five errors in the game, with three of them belonging to Kole Cottam. He’s typically a catcher but he played first in this one and struggled with the job. In more positive news, Howlett continues to look good blasting his sixth homer of the year.

Lowell L 3-12

Cameron Cannon, SS: 0-4, 2 K, 2 E

Nicholas Northcut, 3B: 0-4, 1 K

Nick Decker, RF: 2-4

Ricardo Cubillan, 1B: 2-4, 1 R

Yusniel Padron-Artilles: 3 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 0 BB, 6 K (59 pitches)

The Spinners have been good for most of their season, but this was a big blowout loss. I’m most interested here in the defensive alignment, and specifically Cannon. He has been playing almost exclusively shortstop since being drafted, which is a bit surprising. Not only do most scouts see him moving off very soon, but he’s also taking some playing time away from Antoni Flores. Granted, players get more days off in the lower levels anyway, but I’m just surprised we haven’t seen Cannon move around a bit more. My guess is they don’t want to throw multiple positions at him while also having him adjust to professional life and professional pitching.

GCL W 5-3

Danny Diaz: 0-5, 3 K, 1 E

Dean Miller, DH: 3-4, 1 R, 1 RBI

Matthew Lugo, SS: 0-4, 3 K

Oscar Rangel, C: 2-2, 1 2B, 2 BB, 2 R, 1 RBI

Brock Bell: 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K

Aaron Perry: 2.1 IP, H, 3 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 1 K

DSL 1 W 3-0

Eduardo Lopez, CF: 1-3, 1 BB, 1 PO

Carlos Velez: 3 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 5 K

DSL 2 W 9-5

Denny Daza, 2B: 2-5, 2 R, 1 K

Bryan Gonzalez, RF: 3-5, 1 2B, 1 HR, 2 R, 4 RBI

Frank Astacio, 3B: 2-5, 1 HR, 1 R, 2 RBI
